iPod as MP3 Recorder?

I'm not gonna lie, what I'd really like is a small, high storage option that can use external mics for bootlegging the shitloads of concerts which I attend and I would be thrilled if this option existed on the iPod..does anyone think this option will be added?

Also if it is not added does anyone know any good mp3 recorders made by companies other than apple that work well with the mac?

I also advocate this feature as something that would make me buy an iPod right away.

The Creative offering is the best because it is Firewire... dont know if it works with Macs though.

I gotta wonder about the quality of a sond recording on an iPod. A good recording setup involves several boxes filled with i-dunno-what. The smallest recorder that I've seen that gave good records was a tape recorder the size of a matchbox.

Maybe. The iPod itself is probably just powerful enough to make the MP3 files themselves out of incoming audio data. Two StrongARM processors (MHz?) can probably manage 1x MP3 "ripping" out of an audio stream.
