1) DIY 300Mhz PII 128mb/100 sdram,Diamond Monster 2 3d accel, 8Mb Millenium 2D card <yes, yes... keep laughing >

    2) 1Ghz G4 iMac with LCD, Superdrive with the ability to have 1Gig+ Memory in terms of expansion

    IF THIS IS NOT MADE

1.6+G G5 Equiped PM and maybe splurge on a 20+ inch LCD display < I really hope the first one comes to fruition, otherwise I'm going to be broke >

    3) At the moment NADA that I'm doing with my PC at work, although i would hope to get into creating my own movies and copying them to DVD

    1) I'm using a PowerBook G4/400/20GB/384MB RAM/OS X 10.1.2. Although I'm on a PC right now because I'm having the cracking around the hinges of my PowerBook examined after the screen started flickering (I don't know if it's related or not).

Since I'm using my PowerBook as my only Mac system at the moment, and I'm using the thing to do Final Cut Pro, I'm seeing the need for a desktop. My ideal system after Jan. 7th, conservatively, I'll take the PowerMac system at 933MHz/DDR RAM, SuperDrive, etc. Oh, and one of those nice flat panel screens. However, from the reliable news reports I've read, I think we're likely to see a PowerMac at over a GHz, G4 or G5. The G5 is a 50/50 shot at this point. Whatever debuts I'm all over it.

    3) I work at a school with tons of iMacs and iBooks.

My current machine is a 500MHz DVD iBook with 384MB RAM, 10GB HD, 60GB external HD, 24x CD-RW drive, Pro Keyboard, Logitech Wireless Optical Mouse, Epson 777i running OS X 10.1.2.

My ideal Mac after MWSF would be a G5 tower but I wouldn't be able to afford it (unless my parents chipped in a lot). In that case a nice G4, 15" LCD iMac would be fine for me.

Student. For the most part I use my Mac for homework, projects and reports, and surfing.

    1) A B+W G3 350 overclocked to 450/256MB running mainly 9.2. I also have a 7100/64MB running 8.6 and a Dell Pentium II 450/320MB machine running NT 4.0. I work at home.

    2) 1.4GHz G5 with DDR memory(Oh for a dual!), I don't especially care about graphics. I would like a case which does not allow mastiff slobber to stick, and with a recessed power switch.

    3) Retired (early because of illness) university lecturer in electronics. Microwave and optoelectronic monolithic circuit designer/analyser/fabricator. I now write scientific software. Currently working on a non-linear microwave circuit simulator.

    1) iMac DVSE 400 Mhz, 256 MB, 10.1.2

    2) iMac 15" LCD 1 Ghz G3 or above or perhaps a G4 iMac if they use it.

    3) Naturalist (environmental educator) in my local county park system. It's a fun job and I enjoy working with kids. / I use my computer for web surfing, DV editing, WP, web design and basic graphic design.

You sound very close to me in the "what I have and what I'd be happy with..." category.

Nice to see not everyone is lunging for a quad-G5 with 2GB of RAM.

I'm going to be worried about those people come next Monday.

You and I, however, are probably going to be completely happy with what comes out of the keynote.

    1) At the moment I have a rev.a iMac that is cranky, and getting oh so unreliable I'm gonna get a replacement in the new year (In time for college).

    2) My dream machine would be a PowerMac 2.4ghz G5 with a couple gigs of RAM, with a nice 17" or maybe 19" (if they release one to fill the gap) Apple LCD. Oh, not forgetting a GeForce 3 Ti500, and the PM's system bus would have to be DDR 333.

    3) The "In time for college" bit I mentioned should give you an almighty hint

    Home machine -

    B&W G3 400mhz

    620 RAM

2x 7,200 rpm 30 gig IBM hard drives

    ex CD-RW

    2x 17" Natural Flat View Sonic CRT's (A75f's)

    I use it in my home recording studio that i run my business off of - <a href="http://go.to/revolution.com"; target="_blank">http://go.to/revolution.com;

I've saved up quite alot of money for a new computer and i believe my next purchase will be a G5 (seeing as protools supports niether MP or altivec so my G3 hasn't been completely obliterated in this arena)

So regardless of insainly fast G4's after MWSF, i believe i will wait until i can get this machine:

    Power Mac G5 1.4 ghz +

    1G Ram

    1 7,200 rpm 30 gig hard drive

    1x 10,000 rpm 60 gig Hard drive

    Superdrive

    32x CD-R ex. Firewire(2?)

Dual Flat screen 17" displays (not cinema unless apple drops the prices)

If i can get all of this for a cough, *reasonable* price, then this will be my future digital music workstation.

    My Mac: PBG4 500/512/30/Airport

What I want come Jan 7th: G4/5 PowerMac running at around 1 GHz (dual would be nice, but i can live with one), superdrive, geforce3 (for the upcoming warcraft game), lots of hard disc (80 gig ir so would be cool) .. oh .. and some new displays. I'm dying to get rid of my very old 21" mitsubiishi monitor, its from the early 90s, weighs like 130 lbs, and has a huge chase. I'm hoping for some kinda wide aspect LCD in the 1000-1500 range. If there is a iPod proce cut or promo I'd like to throw one in my shoping basket as well.

What I do: Student (Digital Media)/ Part time web contractor (current looking for work  ). I'm anxious to make some DVDs and do my FCP editing w/o being cramped for space.

    Have: Sawtooth G4/450 (single), PBG4/667 (DVD-ROM)

Want: Top-of-the-line MWSF tower, preferably with 2GHz+ total. I'm expecting dual 1GHz+ G4s, but G5s would be even nicer, provided there are dualies available.

    1. Have G4 400 896MB RAM, 2 monitors

    2. The equivalent of Dual 800 in the low end or maybe 1ghz G5 in low end GF3 and DDR

I would consider a mid range machine tha had dual 1.2 GHZ G4 or 1.2 GHZ G5 Geforce3 DDR

    3. Main Applications are Cinema4d XL7, Photoshop, Cubase VST

Looking for faster rendering (min 4x), and more VST performance/instruments for Cubase

    Read the topic's first post.

These answers are for "Ideal Future Systems" that's what we are thinking

The first post seems to assume a sense of reality, however. My point is that the people who are posting that a 1.6 GHz+ G5 is going to be what it takes to make them upgrade is unfortunate.

Yes, but he also says "what would make you upgrade" so possibly it would take a G5 1.6ghz system for some to upgrade.

I'm just hoping for either completely new G4s with DDR at 1.2ghz or nothing at all. If no new chips come out on the G4 side I think that bodes well for a G5 relese soon after. If new G4s come out, then the G5 won't be out for a bit. So at least I'll have a measuring stick of sorts in a week.
