Intel already shipping Merom to manufactures.. 17 days to go, i hope.
I always like it when somebody brings facts to the board. So Thank You.
I will add my $0.02 on the purchase of a MacBook with one question. What difference does 20-30% performance difference make to the useability of the current MacBook?
If the current MB gets bumped to 2.3 before August/September you won't even notice it.
If you think there is something better coming out besides the MacBook and MBP then wait. The longer you wait the more likely there will be something just around the corner. You can even speculate about getting a "Kentsfield" chip in a notebook by the end of the year.
Wait for entertainment value and speculate about the next great thing but don't wait if you need a notebook to use this fall.
My parents are forcing me to buy a laptop for uni(MacBook). My question is should I get iWork or use boot camp and get Microsoft office for 37$(subsidised by my dads work) thing is I would need to buy either a hard drive or Ram to get XP service pack 2 OEM.
Both work out to be about 120$ needed for iWork that?s: two 512Ram for total1 gig and XP or iWork?
will I notice the 1 gig of ram if all I do is word process?

Well, your MacBook comes with a trial of iWork. I would play with it for a couple of days to see if you even like it. If not, then I recommend that you buy the Mac version of Office (Student & Teacher Edition).
It would be extremely inconvenient to have to reboot just to use office.
Personally, I use both iWork and Office. Both suites have different uses.
What about NeoOffice - I think that there is an intel version available now or very soon, and it's free! At least give that a try before you buy anything else.
Will the Macbook's technology be totally out of date in less than a year?
The most likely answer is no, but with the latest and greatest out, it sure will feel like it. However, the MacBook is a huge improvement on the iBook in nearly every way, so it will seem like at least a year newer than those.
