Interesting new wrinkle with these all-white cases. I really like them, but what I really wanted was a PowerBook G4 in a new shell.... Hard to fathom these new white machines, but it will look great next to a Snow iMac, a newish iMac 15"LCD and a little old iBook 500 from Japan with the Japanese keyboard!

Someone please post a pic of a new 800 to confirm that only the very cheapest new iBook actually looks that bad.

The new 800's are "NOT" solid white. Here are a few pictures of my 800 that I got yesterday next to the apple pro mouse. You can tell that the palm rest is the greyish opaque color not solid white.

hmmm... 700 case must have changed to cut costs... must be cheaper or something.

Oh no! Does this mean we can't strip out the paint inside and repaint it? Or place pictures inside or what have you? That was a big selling point to Hackers. Next thing you know, the iMac's will be like that. No more "Black iMac" hack like that Japanese site.

Um.. I'd really like to know the overall difference in sppeed between a iMac 700 G4 and an iBook 800 G3. I have the iMac 700 and when the iBook was updated I freaked out and started wanting one really bad. I mean REALLY bad. I was this close to selling my new iMac 700 on eBay to fund it. But my friends at <a href="http://www.AppleAddict.com"; target="_blank">www.AppleAddict.com</a> talked me out of it.. for now. Saying it would be a speed loss. Now, all I really do on my iMac is surf and customize my desktop. But I use PhotoShop once in a while and right now it's slightly slow. I'd guess that an iBook would make it MUCH slower. Or would it?

I wish someone would post real benchmarks comparing the two.

I like it. I've seen lots of iBooks with the coated metallic inner surfaces stained with palm sweat...unattractive.

I like the new white ones.

Can we overclock the 800 to 900?

I also like how the new white model's hinge sets the screen lower.

At $999, it's a great choice for sys admins.

I'd expect the iBook to be slower in Photoshop because it has a slower hard disk and no Altivec. And it doesn't come with enough RAM .

N-E-Way, Belle, are you sure the new hinge sits the screen lower? Anyone have a side by side of an opaque 12" and a transluscent 12" ???

As far as I can see, the white-white iBook ia the 12"-modell and the white-silver a 14". That's why the white-white's screen seems lower.

Where was that photo from again?

There is a 12" 800 grey model. Here are pics of the thing. Just five days old. It is "NOT" white-on-white.

I thought those were a 12 and 14 in the pic, seemed obvious.

BTW, the 800 white-silver looks way way better than the white-white 700.

Hey I got mine last night 800 12" Combo, I maxed out the RAM and put in my Airport card and it ROCKS!!! I actually sold my PBG4 667 to get it and i'm glad i did cos it's blazing along in 10.2.2.

Also it's got a 16x burner in it.

I saw the 700 low end and it looks cheap with the casing change. The 800 is still lovely though just a before.

Apple hit a home run with this one!!!

Welcome to the 800 ibook club. I love mine too. Its super quick. I think they put a little extra sumptin' sumptin' in these guys. Do you find it faster than you 667 powerbook?

I don't know, not gonna try it on mine. Go buy one and try it, then let us know. Either way I don't see where I need it.
