From afar, I thought the inner surface of the new low-end iBook was glossy like the outside. It's not. The surface is textured white plastic like you'd find on any PC laptop. I'm disappointed.
However, ibook's display DDR frequency is faster than old powerbook(DVI) in spec. (Hynix -3.6ns v.s. Samsung -4.5ns)
In addition, the 750FX CPU version is 2.2, different from old ibook (1.x), 1.x 750FX lacks a little function, such as miss under miss L1 data cache, L2 cache locking ...
Anyone have any idea how the new 800's run PS? I have a friend who is getting one shortly and she'll probably be doing at least some limited PS work. Unfortunately she can't afford a PB, so the iBook will be it, I'm just curious what kind of performance she can expect out of it.
holy sh*t...i just received my new 800Mhz iBook (640MB)...this thing flies! it is ridiculous! it is just as fast as my 800Mhz 17" iMac for nearly every regular task...it is absolutely incredible!
i love this thing, i can't stop fiddling with it. just incredible. this is by far the best laptop i've ever used. silent, fast, ultra-crisp screen, remarkably easy to use (a la jaguar)...just awesome.
get one now and you won't regret it.

ps: only one slightly down side...one pixel is stuck (in a dark-ish color)...i didn't notice it for several hours...it is barely noticeable. only when my screen goes entirely black, just before it transitions into the screen saver. i don't even care...this thing rocks!
ThinkDifferent1984, your dog Clyde is really a nice looking dog. I'm a dog lover myself. As for the iBook 800, I'm planning on getting one, so this thread has helped a lot.
