I don't know how you are shooting, but close the aperture down as far as you can, in manual. Let the shutter speed go to where it needs to, and make sure that you are using a good tripod. You will get more depth that way.

    Mmmmm.... Bokeh

Not really. At this distance you can still get your crisp unboxing close ups.

If he dialled the aperature from what looks like 2.8 down to 8 or so.

i miss the sleek and "bling" feeling of the 1st gen Nano.. nice and shiny..

maybe they resorted to aluminum because they cant get the coatings right or something?

I mean, come on.. every cell phone manufacturer can get it right but high and mighty Apple doesn't know how to make scratch proof coatings??

I never figured that one out...

PS Whats up with the Macro???

Maybe the Aluminium is lighter... Anyone have the weights on them?

Some of those photos already show some tiny nicks and dents on the edge of the Aluminium too.

yeah I didn't like ipod minis either. but the black one looks hot! kind of like the original but somehow better because of the aluminum finish. And the silver one doesn't look bad either. although looks too minish.

Although i own a considerable number of shares of apple and am sympathetic to the company's profit motive, this strikes me as customer abuse. Doesn't it mean all the second-party devices that dock the 'pod, such as the many different speaker products (I own several iHome units, for example) won't function with the new nanos until the devices' manufacturers produce new dock adapters--if at all?

IF this is the case, it's just bad business. If it were any company but apple, i'd say they deserved a punishing customer response--a reluctance to buy, for example, because of the consequences of the changes. No, wait: even if it's apple, that'd be deserved. I look forward to learning more about the consequences of the changes. Say it ain't so.

well, it's nonsense. it's not correct. I have very old dock which was come with 4G 20GB ipod. even new nano completely fit into old dock. don't tell us before you try out.

He was comparing using the 2nd Gen nano when put in the tiny dock made just for the 1st Gen nano, not just any old dock.

There may be some, but as far as Apple is concerned, they should be using the Universal dock, so customers can use the dock adapter for their specific model.

What I'm sayimg is that there have been a few devices that used both connectors on the bottom. since the distance between them has changed, those docks (if they are still around) won't work.

That's probably dust. When you shoot macro's, you have to be extremely careful about static and other dust producing and attracting objects. A static eliminating gun, and a can of air will help enormously.

    Ian,

That was my first thought as well.

However, take a look at the third image down that shows the rear of the packaging - at the very bottom in the middle of the box you'll see the PET recycled/recyclable symbol.

That means that the box is either made from recycled PET plastic or is first use PET that can then be recycled into future products.

The process is actually really interesting.

Add to this the fact that less paper (and therefore trees - plantation pine or similar) is used and that it's much smaller in size allowing for greater numbers to be shipped at one time leading to a reduction in the number of shipments required for same quantity, you have something that's more environmentally friendly.

Even though it's plastic, I guess you'd have to call it 'good' plastic - or at least 'less bad' plastic!

    Have a look at: http://container-recycling.org/plasfact/PETstraight.htm

This site gives some insight into the whole process of recycled plastics.

    Kim.

I can't really see that being the case as this new case is plastic and the old one was cardboard.

While it may be smaller and therefore cheaper to ship (and save some fuel in the process), it must be not as environmentally easy to make or more importantly dispose of.

The old box was biodegradable (cardboard), this is plastic and will never degrade I suspect. Well not for many, many years. Seems a backward environmental step to me.

Fortunately in this case there is no need for gender bending or any of that boring asexual stuff, as the Nanos' male counterparts--the white earbuds--are in good supply and are eager to mate.

Ok. I think I've taken this too far now.

    ipod porn. hehe.

hey where's the "don't steal music * ne volez pas la musique * no robar música" sticker?

also, looks like apple is no longer including cds with itunes.

and no extra accessory. the mini had the clip. the 1st gen nano had the sleeve. i hope they still include the apple stickers, which are VERY important (free advertising on ipod owner's cars). can anyone confirm the stickers are included?

    I hate the aluminum...

Just the other day a couple of friends were listening to music on their old Minis and I said to myself how badly they aged and how great the new design was...

    Wtf? Going retro so quickly?

Is it possible to smooth out the alu? Or maybe add somekind of glossy cover?

I tell you something Apple knows exactly what it's doing with these nano's. I've never seen packing like this on anything I've bought before (black and male btw - the nano not me!) - but then I'm tight!. It's displayed in the case like a wedding gift (ring) or fancy watch - perfect for christmas again!.

I expect there are millions who have been waiting for an update (same as me). The delay will just make the buying now more frenzied...

10-20 million b4 christmas and iPhone after the inevitable slow down...
