How do I change a file types default program

Hi, I have microsoft word on my macbook pro, and whenever i open a document, it opens pathfinder as its default application. How do i change the default program so that word will open?

    Select the file

    Do Get Info

    In the Get Info dialog, choose Word as the app you want to open it with

    Check the box for Open All Files With if you want Word to open all files of this type.
