That's how you would pronounce it too if you Americans could spell it correctly.
It should be spelt "aluminIum" rather than "aluminum". Every other chemical element ends in -IUM (sodium, calcium, rubidium etc) which is why the correct spelling is "aluminIUM" How would you pronounce that?
Why don't you go ahead and look up the pronunciation of "Technetium." Secondly, there are plenty of elements that do not end in "ium." And chemically speaking, since Aluminum is a metalloid, it's perhaps more accurate not to lump it in nomenclature-wise with true metals.
On topic:
Face it, they're going to be known as the PowerBook 12 (abbreviated as PB12) and the PowerBook 17. (Abrreviated as PB17)
well, just wanted to suggest and attribute to these great powerbooks..
as SIZE has become a new issue for the pb-line, i'm inclined to believe this is a logic way to name them, as opposed to the matrial-based names. they're still made out of metal, so i have a go for SIZES. as i'm going to basically wear mine(12") i think of the basic garment labelling; Small(S), Medium(M), Large(L), Xtra Large(XL)
(S)PB, the 12"pb
(M)PB, the hopefully coming 16/10 13"3pb
(L)PB, the 15"pb
(XL)PB, the 17" pb
now, i know these names sound a bit lame for the moment, but maybe you could help me out with the SIZES-name-scheme?

The 12", on the other hand, I call the TinyBook.
and
ThighBook - It doesn't need the whole lap.
The 17" could be aLumiBook for its luminous keyboard too (OK, it's not that elegant).
<strong>Any small animals that had its own film? A really tiny dinasaur?</strong><hr></blockquote>
BarneyBook? <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />
I still like AluBook and Bookzilla the best. Although Masker's MouseBook and MooseBook make for a brilliant pair.
Escher
al-YOU-book works much better than al-OO-book or al-oo-BOOK.
I'm not sure AlBook is much better, but it does make me keep thinking of <a href="http://www.shetline.com/sounds/you_can_call_me_al.mp3" target="_blank">this</a>.
For the 17", I'm really liking LapZilla.
"I got yer 12 inches -- right here Book"
Or for the upstate New Yorkers:
"17 inches of not snow Book"
Or for internet posters everywhere, its [sic] the:
GoodBook - 12"
GooderBook - 15"
GoodestBook - 17"
(The GoodBook may be taken, though.)
And finally, for the mathematicians out there:
sqrt(144)Book
3x5Book
PrimeBook

and
MaximAL
But somehow, I suspect that "Lapzilla" or "Maxibook" are what will stick for the 17".
wallstreet, pismo, clamshell, icebook, tibook.
another consideration is the latest tibook has been dubbed "gigabook" to reflect its processor, So we'd have to deal with 3 caracteristics:
-size
-material
-cpu (eventually gpu or other internal if its first ever)
Anyhow, all that doesnt really matter as the choice has been alrady made, with that terrific commercial. they're simply:
-minibook and
-giantbook (because YaoBook or MingBook sound so bizarre)
alu-bye.
Lapzilla
Palmzilla
or.....
Maximinium (sorry am a brit so inium, but num is fine too)
Miniminium
