I looked around Apple's site, but found no mention of backwards compatibility of the new AirPort cards. They definitely look different, but will they work in the older models?
I doesnt look like it as they areof a different form factor. I heard mention that BElkin was making an extreme pcmca card, but havent found squat yet. It would have been nice to be able to retrofit older models, but unfortunately Apple needs the new sales $$ more to stay afloat.
The card that I have seen from Belkin is a PC card that will go in the PC card slot on the side of the Powerbook. I do not think that this card will be able to be put inside the Powerbook in place of the Airport card.
And from what I have read, the new Mini-PCI Airport Extreme card will not fit in the internal cardbus slot used by the Airport card used on the Titanium and other Mac products.
im pretty sure that ApE will work just fine in old Ap slots at least according to hte appple store SOHO right after the 'note

nope
the new cards are miniPCI cards. not PCMCIA based like the old ones....
grrrrrr well at least i wont have to spend $$ to upgrade old systems but i wont be able to if i wanted....
Yippers. 'Tis a pitty I cannot use it for the new PB I got just several weeks ago...and I would have bene willing to pony up the $300 for it, too. Oh well.

I would love someone to prove me wrong here.

On the bright side, maybe the old cards will drop in price.
