No - quite the opposite in my opinion. Yes, Apple did spend billions in the R&D of Apple Car however just because they shutdown the team does not mean they hit the delete button on all the research.  Looking at this today, that's all Apple did on this project - Research (and maybe some prototypes).  Rivian has the research and full development (made the product, make the infrastructure, factories, supply chain for components, etc to build the product, obtained customers and established a place in the market).  Apple could now blend their learnings with Rivian's current stage/development in the market.  To even get to where Rivian is, Apple might need an additional $50B in development over 5 years, OR it could just spend less than $50B and get there nearly immediately. This is why Apple was earlier reported looking for a manufacturing partner a year ago in the actual build-out of the vehicles.

This could either be an integration of Apple CarPlay 2.0 adding it beyond Aston Martin and Porsche further downmarket all the way to a full-scale acquisition.

My wife and I have had multiple vehicles over the year that were both compatible with Android Auto and CarPlay.  The first one we had that was equipped with it in 2017 was a feature we didn't anticipate that would grow into a must-have...until we rented a car without it.  Collectively, we've had five vehicles between us with including our first, and all since have had CarPlay as a required feature.... even dismissing cars we wanted due to not having CarPlay at the time of purchase.

I currently drive a 2021 Chevy Tahoe, and it's one my favorite vehicles I've owned with CarPlay (the others were Grand Cherokees, Wrangler and VW Tiguan).

Not only is wireless CarPlay a requirement for us going forward, I'm on the lookout for which vehicles will have CarPlay 2, which was supposed to be announced by the end of 2023!

GM is not taking into consideration what their target customers use/want.  Ford stated how a vast amount of their drivers are iPhone users, and would not alienate their base, like how GM is doing with this transition.  At the least, they should have built in the capability to use multi-operating systems and you decide the interface you want to use (Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Google Auto).

Yes the US are very important for the whole world's economy, but there's limits to everything. We should stop this appeasing and just call out things what they are. The US government decided that diplomacy is no longer "in", so the rest of the world should not be trying to uphold principles towards the US that are not reciprocated. 

No - The gloves have come off, because the US is constantly ripped off and walked over by other countries. The EU imposes a 10% tariff on all incoming vehicles on the US, while the US only has a 2.5% tariff on EU made autos.  A reciprocal tariff here is completely fair game. The EU plays this "we need competition" game, when they are the ones being anti-competitive. The EU claims to be anti-monopoly...unless is European.
