J.D. Vance shouldn't open his mouth about Apple if he doesn't have a clue
spheric said:In other news, immigrants in Springfield steal and eat others' dogs and eat them.Who the fuck cares what bullshit JD Vance spouts, unless it's subsequently picked up by Tr*mp to utterly embarrass himself to a worldwide audience?ssfe11 said:Clueless idiot. Oh and btw Springfield do you know that your pets are getting eaten? Fido is being roasted up right now. Smh you can’t even make this stuff up!As someone born and raised in Springfield, Ohio, one of the best things about my hometown was being able to grab someone's dog for lunch on the way to school.Good times... -
Lossless streaming option for Apple Music may launch within weeks
12Strangers said:Steve Jobs never wanted lossless. He and Neil Young had a meeting about that very thing before there ever was an iTunes Store let alone streaming. So as Neil’s Pono player and music store were about to start making money, Apple bought their mastering facility and shut it down. Because Steve was an asshole.I’ll stick with Qobuz.
Jobs died in 2011.Pomo launched in 2015.Pomo hardware was too expensive for mainstream consumption.Pomo's content partner, Omnifone, was bankrupt when Apple bought them in 2016.You obviously have a casual relationship with reality. -

Meta cancels its headset rival to Apple Vision Pro
9secondkox2 said:No need to follow after something that isn’t quite working in the market. The killer app for headsets is entertainment - gaming and media. In that sense, meta even has the better product.Apple has the far superior hardware, software, and ecosystem. But all the hardware and OS polish in the world isn’t going to save a product that the market has rejected time and again - save for a niche subset of gamers. The quest is lighter, doesn’t require a tethered battery, and plays decent games. While there are some compelling engineering/medical use cases, it’s not a mass market thing. Most people just don’t want to be encumbered by a device for their daily needs. When it’s indoor/outdoor sunglasses, that may possibly change. But headsets just suck. One of the best decisions Meta ever made is saying “no” to this. Kinda like Apple used to do. -

Adobe hikes Creative Cloud prices with a rebrand no one asked for
I'm looking at this from the outside, since I deAdobe'd myself before the subscriptions started. But I don't understand how Adobe can justify charging such an extortionate cancellation fee, or why people put up with it. When a customer decides they don't want to use their service, they should be able to cancel the service and just walk away as long as their accounts paid up to date. Adobe can just disable the apps on their end if they must. But penalizing customers for deciding they don't want your service anymore just seems evil. This appears to me to be a textbook abusive relationship. Price gouging people with subscriptions is bad enough, but when there are now so many viable alternatives, why are people still putting up with this cancellation fee noise? -
Inside Apple Music: how you can get the most out of Apple's music streaming service
Appleish said:pdnoble said:Hello, Apple! We can stream Apple Music losslessly to a HomePod but not to our high end audio systems where we can actually hear and appreciate hi res audio! The magic of "Apple Digital Mastering" makes AAC 256k streaming indistinguishable from high resolution for most people. Then there is their lossless vs. hi-res lossless. Almost nobody can really hear the difference. I have my Apple TV 4K hooked up to my high end receiver via HDMI. It plays through at lossless, limited to 24-bit/48 kHz. I doubt even my skilled ears could tell much difference between that and hi-res lossless.Let me put it another way: why even bother with 4K televisions, when most people can't tell the difference between that and 1080p? Why bother with high-resolution photographs, or even the retina screen on your iPhone, when most people can't tell the difference? Why are people wanting 120mHz refresh rates on their screens when most people can't tell the difference?Lastly, not being able to stream high-res audio from Apple Music is bad enough, but not being able to stream high-resolution audio files from my Mac is just stupid. Why does my Apple TV take the extra step of down-sampling those files instead of just passing the audio full-resolution, like my 9 year old Blu-ray player does? It's just lame.
