Big tech’s payoff of Trump and Musk is not a recognition that any of this makes sense. It doesn’t. This is a coup d’état and these ads are a bribe to be allowed to live. It’s an acknowledgment that MAGA currently holds all the levers of power. The only thing preventing Trump from acting more recklessly is his awareness that his power may wane in the future, and today’s victims could potentially become his (or his children’s) masters. Like demagogues before him, if Trump were to die, his movement would die.

It’s crucial to maintain our integrity, be kind and helpful to good people, and work hard towards eliminating the very narrow, but very important, MAGA legislative majority in 2026.

It’s possible that Tech will eventually rise up and present a legitimate opposition to the Trump mania. Since opposition spans a broad spectrum of concerns, we’ll need to focus on the most important winnable issues. It’s hard to sell “prevent dictatorship” to a nation that has no good way to oppose it.

Hopefully, we will emerge from this somewhat intact.
