  • Sprint and T-Mobile agree to all-stock merger deal worth $26 billion

How can a Sprint (CDMA) customer use T-Mobile’s (GSM) network?
The TMO iPhone models support the 3 Sprint LTE bands (25, 26, and 41).  LTE is a shared technology, unlike GSM vs CDMA, so as long as a device supports the LTE bands, it should work regardless of the legacy technology base the carrier built out from.

That being said, Sprint still uses CDMA as their voice side backbone.  (Disclaimer: I worked on the GSM side of the industry, so my CDMA knowledge is a bit limited).  After the merger they will likely phase out CDMA, use VoLTE anywhere that has LTE coverage, and move Sprint over to GSM fallback (i.e. HSPA / 3G).  In the meantime, there is no reason why TMO customers wouldn't get expanded LTE data coverage, and Sprint customers should have access to TMO's LTE network as well.  It will take several years for the network to work as a seamless single network, but all customers should benefit pretty quickly after (if) the merger is finalized.

  • Pixar head John Lasseter takes leave of absence amid sexual misconduct allegations

I rarely send my two cents out into the internet on these types of hot-button political issues (why aren't comments closed on this post, btw?) because the internet is full of trolls, but at any rate, here is mine. There is no war on men, especially white men. Just because we (white men) can't just take whatever we want anymore, doesn't mean the world is suddenly conspiring to get us. Glad to see most folks commenting here are living in a post 1950's world, where women get to be people, too. I think that even just ten years ago, most people posting on this article would have been making those "guilty first" statements like Cali did. Makes me think the world is getting to be a better place to live, even if it doesn't always feel like it is.

Apple was pretty late to the game when they introduced the iPhone, too.

  • iOS 14.3 and iPadOS 14.3 now available with ProRAW, Apple Fitness+, AirPods Max support

Just updated iPadOS to 14.3 on my iPad Pro 2017. No sign of Apple Fitness. Is it not available for this model?
It looks like we are waiting on Apple to release the updated Fitness app now that is compatible with iPad.

Here is a link to the US Store version.  It will be available to download whenever the update gets pushed out by Apple.

For folks in other countries, there will be a link to the App Store via Apple's website.  Go to Fitness+ -> Try Free -> Find the App Store link on this page.

  • Elon Musk orders Twitter to charge $20/month for verification

I think a few things are going on here. He fired the executive staff “with cause” to avoid paying out stock option entitlements that were about to mature. He had texted with a friend before that his plan was to lay off about 75% of the Twitter work force. Now he is setting up “cause” to fire instead of layoff as much staff as possible which will save him from paying out even more upcoming entitlements, and gets out his new monetization strategy.

I am a developer and would never work for Elon, but if I were at Twitter now, I would not quit, not work more than my standard day, and when I was fired (which is probably going to happen even to those willing to work 24/7) file wrongful termination with unemployment, get a lawyer and get the ball rolling on the wrongful termination lawsuit that will be coming. He is so arrogant and out of touch that he thinks he can use shortcuts to get what he wants, no matter who he has to run over in order to do this.

Anyone looking for Twitter alternatives, I highly recommend the massive open source, self run instance, Federated universe known as Mastodon.

  • Apple adds Windows Precision Touchpad to Boot Camp, eight years late

    Xed said:
Any chance this could be a signal that they’re continuing work on BootCamp and that it MIGHT be enabled on M1 Macs somehow? :|  I don’t know; I’m just reaching on this one. Perhaps they (Apple) found a way to run a HAL or something on top of M1/M2 hardware where (Intel) Windows can run on top of? *shrug* Just wishful thinking here lol
While Apple could choose not to offer Bootcamp for M1 Macs, I don't see that as something they'd shy away from as the cost of development is likely minuscule compared to the overall benefit. The core issue is Microsoft not offering a license for Windows ARM. MS will offer this when PC makers are wanting to push more ARM-based PCs to the market to better compete with Apple on performance per watt. There's too much at stake for MS not to make this happen for their vendors.
Agree 100%. It may take a few years, but I would be shocked if we never saw Windows on ARM.

  • Video: 5 reasons to upgrade to iPhone 7

I won't because I despise the way the new home button feels
I only upgraded because of T-Mobile's free trade-up program. While waiting for my phone to arrive I tried it at the store, and had the same reaction as you.

After it arrived, it took about a day and I started to really like it, better than the old home button, even. The Taptic Engine adds a lot to the overall experience as well.

All in all, I was prepared to be underwhelmed by the iPhone 7, and I am happy to say that I was totally wrong to be. The iPhone 7 is the best phone I have ever used. And, as an engineer who tests pretty much every phone that comes to market, I think that's saying something.

Thanks for that link. Unbelievable. Accidental discovery is one thing, but this is just negligence on Apple’s part.
I am starting to think that it isn't so much that we are waiting for the app to push to the store, but for them to fix the bug that is preventing anyone from downloading it on iPad.  Seems like something they should have had working over a month ago...  But you know how it is with these small startups like Apple, they don't have the funds to make sure the basics are working at launch time... (may have been a small amount of sarcasm in there)

The CBS / Showtime combo isn't part of Apple TV+ exactly, so you should still get that for $9.99 / month plus the cost of your Apple One membership.
