  • Apple TV+ drama 'Foundation' to become Ireland's biggest-ever production

There is no "southern" Ireland. Troy Studios is not in "southern" Ireland. Troy Studios is located in Limerick, Ireland.  That other place is part of England.
    Errrr? Nope. Being pedantic...

Troy Studios is not in "southern" Ireland. Troy Studios is located in Limerick, Republic of Ireland.  That other place is part of "The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland".

Come on. So many of us living here use the phrase ‘southern Ireland’ to refer to the Republic. It’s a simple way to distinguish it from Northern Ireland. It’s no big deal. I’ve lived a few miles south of the border for most of my life and this phrase is used frequently. We regularly say ‘The North’ as a shorthand, too.

  • Apple must pay EU $14 billion over Ireland tax arrangement

I’m curious to see how this pans out. The Irish government has consistently stated that Apple did not get a special tax deal (the same terms & arrangements were available to other businesses — and were transparently so) and that Apple paid all relevant taxes over the years. If there are no more grounds for appeal then the €13 billion should go to the Irish government. However, other EU governments have expressed interest in the portion of that tax which relates to purchases made in those countries. Interesting times ahead!

  • Apple's 'Mother Nature' sketch was a complete dud, and didn't belong in the iPhone 15 even...

After reading this article, I showed the skit to my wife (who didn’t watch the Keynote itself). She loved it. Clever, funny and informative. It seems that some folks enjoyed Apple’s novel way of dealing with, what could otherwise have been, dry data!

  • Apple will start mapping Austria for improved Apple Maps, 'Look Around'

Still not live in the USA outside of a few cities and they are already moving on to Australia?
It seems the mapping of Australia was due to finish last month: https://maps.apple.com/imagecollection/locations/au
whereas the mapping of Austria has just started this month and will continue until September: https://maps.apple.com/imagecollection/locations/at

  • Samsung's half-hearted attempt to capitalize on Apple's Crush ad misses the point

Nicely done, Samsung. Short, simple, elegant. Kudos.
On a related note. Apple did a reasonably good job with their ‘Crush’ ad. Pity it caused so much offence.

Of course there is. Those of us who live in southern Ireland, especially along the border, use the term regularly. It’s just a quick way to differentiate between the Republic and Northern Ireland. Now, let’s get back to the main topic... Foundation is coming and it’s being produced here! Wow! I loved this series as a teenager. I just hope this is a great production.

  • Masimo's claims falter as Apple defends smartwatch designs in court

This is great. Apple -- Please tell us when the BloodO2 sensor will be turned back on in a Series 10, so I can reconsider picking one up.

Right now I'm sticking with my Series 9 that still has the BloodO2 sensor app installed from release day.
If you happen to be taking a trip to another country — literally any other country where Apple sells the Apple Watch — pick one up there. The Blood O2 sensor will work just fine, even after you return. The ban is strictly limited to the US.

PS. International travel is GREAT, and I strongly encourage Americans to do more of it if the opportunity arises.
However, be sure to buy that Watch from a country that is part of the same region as the US. Apple operates several regions globally for their Watches. European, Asian and Chinese Watches are not the same as North American ones.

  • Apple's newest hire is another step towards ads in Apple TV+

Apple, please Think Different and don’t do this. ATV+ is so clean and simple (I’ve been a user since day one).
Please…just please don’t be like the rest of them!

  • Numbers, Pages, and Keynote gain Apple Intelligence smarts

That's brilliant. Now we need to round up roster of users from Antartica and Upper Mongolia who actually use the Apple equivalent of Office. In my entire time in IT and as a Uni Phd student I have yet to see anyone using other than Word, Excel, Powerpoint.
    Greetings from Mongolian Antarctica!
As a regular (and long-time) user of both Pages and Keynote I’m surprised to read your post. I’ve used Word and PowerPoint over the decades but moved to Pages and Keynote exclusively many years ago. Bring free certainly helped. However, the main reason is ease of use. I work almost exclusively from an iPad and find Keynote, in particular, to be intuitive and very user friendly. When I need to work with Office documents I simply import them into the Apple equivalent and work with them there. When necessary, I export them back to their Office versions and it’s a painless exercise.
Sadly, as I live in the EU (Ireland), I won’t have access to these new feature until April. I am very much looking forward to using Image Playground for Keynote, as I regularly spend far too long finding appropriate images for my presentations. From what I’ve seen so far, I should be able to create suitable ones in seconds for each slide. I don’t need photorealistic, just clear and relevant.

  • Galactic tensions rise as Apple TV+ series 'Foundation' returns in July

Really looking forward to this second season. Loved the first one. Not even slightly concerned about it matching/following the books. Making stuff up worked wonderfully for Peter Jackson and his team with LOTR. I believe it’s working wonderfully for Foundation, too. YMMV, of course. I hope we get 4/5 seasons out of this. One very happy Irish Viking here!
