  • Editorial: Intel CPU constraints are sign on the road to ARM chips in the Mac

Steve Jobs explained (biography) why Intel lost over ARM For iOS hardware:

“At the high-performance end, Intel is the best. They build the fastest chip, if you don’t care about power and cost. But they build just the processor on one chip, so it takes a lot of other parts. Our A4 has the processor and the graphics, mobile operating system, and memory control all in the chip. We tried to help Intel, but they don’t listen much. We’ve been telling them for years that their graphics suck. Every quarter we schedule a meeting with me and our top three guys and Paul Otellini. At the beginning, we were doing wonderful things together. They wanted this big joint project to do chips for future iPhones. There were two reasons we didn’t go with them. One was that they are just really slow. They’re like a steamship, not very flexible. We’re used to going pretty fast. Second is that we just didn’t want to teach them everything, which they could go and sell to our competitors.”

The problem with Intel seems to go farther back, earlier than 5G.

  • Apple donating 9M face masks to US healthcare facilities amid coronavirus outbreak

Where have these masks been for the last month? Why are they just being donated now? Why does Apple have 9m?
Cook said Apple was sourcing suppliers for the health supplies and then donating them. It could’ve been a mix of storage and buying them from suppliers. Don’t assume you know the whole story.

Cook is the king of the supply chain and he can find anything.

It takes Apple to stand up to the insanity! Thank you Tim Cook. Obviously if you are in a high risk group or area then you need to isolate yourself but the rest can get back to a slightly less restrictive life.

  • Apple employee bag check class-action lawsuit revived

I don’t understand why Apple keeps on fighting this, just pay them! These guys are the only brand representatives that customers really talk to, and they’re worth it. One call with from Tim Cook to legal will end this.

  • Apple has multiple options to lower potential import tariff impact

I'm a bit concerned with the approach Ms. Huberty proposes, since it would mean reducing manufacturing in China, which will not sit well with the Chinese. An alternative would be for the Chinese to agree to "eat" some of the tariff as a way to keep Apple manufacturing in China. As a short term measure, it could help to keep those jobs in China. At the very least, I'd hope Mr. Cook is open to that kind of deal.

More than likely there would be some combination of all possibilities which, on net, would see resultantly little change in the US consumer price tag.
Fortunately, not all sales are to the United States. Remember Apple Inc. is an international brand. They can still can ship Chinese components and phones throughout China, Europe and rest of Asia.

There’s a lot that Apple can do to play around in their complicated supply chain so no one country gets seriously hurt. Also, Foxconn is having problems filling staff as many Chinese hate manufacturing jobs and are refusing to apply, so Foxconn is already replacing these unfilled positions with robots.

  • Foxconn says coronavirus will not impact manufacturing, Apple has alternatives ready

“We have alternate sourcing and contingency plans," Cook said during today's conference call. "Factories outside Wuhan are less clear. We are trying to factor in factory re-opening delays into our guidance.”

Once again, Tim Cook has proven to be the King of the Supply Chain. Almost everything pundits like to parrot - Apple’s revenues too dependent on the iPhone, iPhone market too saturated - he was already working on before they even became problems. I’ll bet you, despite Cook’s assurances, a few analysts are going to downgrade Apple’s because of what’s happening in Wuhan.

People on the internet in the area report that the number of actual infected is about 90-100k. Chinese gov-t, just like soviet gov-t, simply downplays the issue.
If you’re going to quote a number like that, I would provide references. People should know more than, “people on the internet.”
You do realize that 90 000 infected people is nothing for China, where the entire population is 1.5B?
I dont get all this skepticism, because I am surprised that it is not in the millions, given how poor the Chinese heath system is and how close people live to each other there and to animals. Anyway, here is a link. NYP talks about it here... the article should have a link to the video.
    https://nypost.com/2020/01/26/coronavirus-whistleblower-nurse-says-china-has-90000-sick/

Oh brother. First of all, the number of infected the entire world for the SARS virus was 8000. How did they get 90000 so soon? The article said the nurse did not tell how she arrived at her numbers. Sorry, bad reference at the NYPost with its tabloid headlines knows it. If this ever hit close to home, you would hope you would get accurate information. 90000 my ass.

  • CPSC calls Peloton Tread+ a danger to children and pets

How ridiculous. Almost every single treadmill has that same basic design...kids should not be around any exercise equipment while in use: treadmills, ellipticals, stationary bikes, etc. can all hurt someone quite easily...
It could be ridiculous. But it could be the 39 reported incidents seem to be abnormal amount of reports for one machine compared to others. Need more information. Standard design? Could be too. But I noticed their machines are more expensive than the many cheaper ones on the market. Looks like they are are designing their machines themselves with more expensive parts instead of telling the Chinese factory to ship a house version. Again need more information.

  • Former Apple lawyer accused of insider trading says charges unconstitutional

I do know that there are people who support the idea that insider trading should be legal. Commentator George Will, I believe, holds this point of view. I think this lawyer is gambling that the political direction of the highest court would be sympathetic to this argument. After all, the Supreme Court declared that laws restricting campaign contributions of independent entities as a violation of freedom of speech.
