Tim Sweeney compares Epic's App Store fight with Apple to civil rights movement

Coalition for App Fairness unites developers to fight Apple's App Store fees and policies
I like how this coalition totally ignores the fact that 30% is the standard fee on pretty much every platform, Google, Xbox, PS, and that the App Store provides value to these companies. Apple created the store, it’s services, and most importantly its reputation and ease of use. One of the reasons I use an iPhone is because while I enjoy building computers and hacking around with my PCs and various software my phone does not fall into that category. I depend on my phone and knowing Apple is at least making some effort to keep things legit and the OS up to date I can relax use the App Store with some confidence. Not to bash Android, but the ability to side load apps and vendors basically abandoning their devices in record time with OS updates has made it hot garbage. I use an iPhone 7, a four year old phone that is still running the most up to date OS and still gets security updates. My phone looks like it will literally die of old age before it gets abandoned. Most importantly if your business model requires/depends the use of someone else’s platform you can’t really expect that platform not to have the ability to effect your bottom line. -
Apple's powerful new Mac mini perfectly suits the 'Pro' market, yet the complaints have al...
The only thing wrong with the old Mac Mini was it was 4 year old technology and present day prices. I love the Mini and was running one of the 2012? Versions when the i7 option was still an option up until a few months ago. This new Mini is exactly what I’ve been hoping for and ordered one immediately. Yeah a better gpu would have been nice but with egpu support my Mini is now upgradable, for those who don’t need a better gpu they don’t have to pay for it.

Spotify threatening developers over apps that transfer playlists to other services
This is a classic example that all the uproar against Apple is merely posturing by other companies, when given the opportunity they will do the exact same thing. Corporations are not your buddy, they will turn on you the first chance they get. Spotify just finds itself in a business that has no real value, they don’t create the music, they don’t create the playlists, and as time goes on running a cloud based streaming service is becoming child’s play because everyone is doing it. If the music companies could ever get a clue they would disappear overnight. Their only hope is to become a real music company that signs artists and then streams the content, there is one too many middle men is this soup already.Holding your playlists hostage is the weakest move they’ve made yet. Failing companies have the stink of litigation and protectionism all over them. -
UK celebs call for tax on iPhones & Macs to help fund creative arts
I don’t like it when compared to me, wealthier people suggest I should pay more for an item as a tax to support their industry. The public already supports the arts via regular taxation in the form of grants etc. but because their is some oversight attached to that money they want more. Let’s forget about the fact that the tax forces me to pay for content indirectly that I have no interest in whatsoever. Many professions were impacted by the pandemic and governments around the world are spending huge sums of money in support that the tax payer is ultimately going to have to pay, but artists are special and want more. How about the industry that has created many many millionaires try to figure something out to support its industry that doesn’t involve their hand in my pocket? -
Mark Zuckerberg says Apple's App Store 'deserves scrutiny'
You would think that the CEO of one of the company’s with the worst records for abusing their power would be smart enough to keep his head down and his mouth shut. Once government starts you know Facebook is going to a major target, his hope of distraction via Apple isn’t going to work. Instead he should focus on his own house and try to get out in front of his own shit storm and clean things up, but like your average carpet bagger he’ll only focus on amazing as much wealth as he can and his users can go f@#$ themselves.
