  • Apple's Epic gamble: birthright citizenship ruling cited to overturn antisteering mandate

Considering the 9th district covers basically the west coast, it’s pretty clear their decision was an example of judicial overreach - something they’re not unfamiliar with. Good on Apple to challenge the ground they stand on.
As a proud Californian, I just want to remind you that the west coast, California and Washington in particular, would be in the top 5 of global economies on a standalone basis. We butter your bread. You're welcome!

  • Apple's Eddy Cue is guessing that the iPhone will eventually be replaced by AI

    Bring on the chip implants!

Would be much more comfortable with implanting an Apple Silicon chip vs. a Neuralink.

  • Apple to host pop-punk band Good Charlotte at its WWDC16 Bash

apple has impeccable taste in matters of design.  sadly, can't say the same about the acts they book to play at wwdc.  smh

  • Sources split on alleged acquisition talks between Apple and Tidal

pull the trigger, tim.  i bet you can cover the deal with the loose change hidden underneath your couch.  i'd love to have jay-z as yet another brand ambassador for apple music, despite his trash talking when the service launched.
  • TSMC US chip production may soon only be three years behind Taiwan

I’m very much not a fan of the current administration. I’m also very much not a fan of people who assert that it’s “impossible” to manufacture this or that in the US.

This story shows the CHIPS act worked, so a win for Biden. It also shows that the smug cynics who say it’s impossible to do things in the US are wrong.

unfortunately it also shows trump’s tariffs might be having some positive impact. Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

Agree 100%. I would also like to add that we should not be pushing Canada and Mexico away, e.g. with the administration's weaponization of trade policy, but instead draw them in closer. For instance, setting up Tijuana and Monterrey as sort of special economic zones, much like how Shenzhen is set up to work in conjunction with Hong Kong.

Once there is some level of vertical integration in place, TSMC may move even more of their production to North America, far far away from the range of CCP artillery which is pointed at their heads at the moment.

  • Apple expands Maps capabilities with new Flyover, Nearby and Traffic location data

maps is a product that needs a lot of work.  i'm happy to use it whenever convenient, but recently i was on a road trip in southern california...used apple maps for TbT directions, and it suggested an infinite loop (literally) on and off highway 1 outside morro bay.  had to revert to google maps for directions back northward.  i really hope they devote more resources to the product, especially if they plan on releasing a carOS sooner or later.

yes, a carOS and not a car.  in the most recent podcast, one of the folks at AI outlined all of the reasons why producing a car made no sense, but a framework or OS did.  i tend to agree at this point.  why make a TV, a highly commoditized product with low margin, when you can make the primary device and interface that users will interact with?  same logic seems to apply to cars as well.
