  • YouTuber wrecks car to test iPhone 14 crash detection

Essentially useless features as in modern cars (at least in the EU) it's been a legal requirement, that they call emergency services after the crash is detected. Together with the essentially useless satellite emergency call (at least outside US), this years iPhone introduction was quite useless.

That is an EU and not a US requirement then.  In last two years have purchased several recent model year vehicles and none have this capability without excessive additional monthly fees - for instance OnStar starts at $25/month. So at least here in US this feature seems useful.

  • Apple, Amazon, Google, Zigbee Alliance networking protocol on track for 2021 release

I don't think I trust Zigbee anymore. My 17 Hue devices, mostly bulbs, use Zigbee's protocol. Every morning all my devices work, but as they day goes on more and more are "not responding" and when I try to ask Siri to turn off all the lights, sometimes as many as 14 of 17 lights aren't responding. I'm desperate to find something that works because I love HomeKit/Siri... when it works. Any suggestions? I'm guessing it's interference from the neighbors in my building. Or it could be my Hue Bridge failing, which I've rebooted and that doesn't change anything.

Had similar problems at one point - found it was interference from numerous nearby competing WiFis ... did a couple “Hue channel changes” and problems disappeared.

  • Apple ditches physical SIM cards from all US iPhone 14 models

So iPhone 14 can have multiple phone numbers with multiple cellular providers?
This has been true of iPhones since the XS.
I want a Verizon phone number as well as an AT&T number.
I have that on my iPhone 11 Pro for 2 years now.  Personal is Verizon and Work is AT&T.  Only downside has been impact on battery life since phone is always seeking out both networks - solved with Smart Battery Case.  Looking forward to this iPhone 14 Pro upgrade!

  • Some users are randomly getting locked out of their Apple ID accounts

Didn't happen to me, yet at least? I do use a 19 character generated passphrase with 3 of each capital, numbers, & special characters.  That, as good as it is, can be really problematic if this would have happened, or yet still does.  I have 2auth on as well, was there any indication if this happened to those that had 2auth on? Was it only those that had 2auth off, and some password like "myAppleID789" since 2002?  LOL
I got hit with it, over a 20-random-character password already in place with 2FA, and had changed the password only a few months ago.  Worst yet is that while I was at home, for some reason my iPhone activated Stolen Device for 1 hour, so that just added to the issues.

  • M3 Max benchmarks show Mac Pro performance in a MacBook

I have the last intel MacBook Pro from late 2019. Spent almost $4000 on it. Unfortunately can’t justify upgrading for thousands more when mine works great still.
I’m glad you posted, because I’m kind of in the same boat. I have few complaints about the Intel i9, but it does take its time on some audio processing and video transcoding I do. Other than that, it’s suitably speedy for my mostly-modest needs.

Thankfully, I didn’t spend $4K on my 2019 last-of-the-15-inch MBPs, more like $2.5K, and that’s still MORE than it would cost me to get a 14-inch MBP with M3 Pro (again, more than I need right now), which runs about $2K (before tax) with the specs I want, and I prefer the smaller size anyway.

I’m still agog that the price of the base 14-inch MBP with M3 now costs $400 **less** than the same model did last year. THIS NEVER HAPPENS! I can’t believe the Mac sites didn’t make a bigger deal about this.

Sort of like both you, like to get a long life out of the electronics..  I did upgrade to the M1 Macbook Pro with a docking station last year, but that was replacing both a 2012 iMac and 2015 Macbook.    Was a great upgrade!
