Pretty ironic comment coming from someone with the username "ireland"...guess you never heard of a little group called the IRA...the only difference is that this technology didn't exist in their heyday but if it had, they wouldn't be allowed to slide because they were christians. But, as it stands today, you don't have a global christian extremist problem where you have christians beheading people or blowing themselves up in crowded, public spaces..unless they're a mass media conspiracy keeping these events quite and only focusing on besmirching the good name of Allah.

seems like it's a war of hypotheticals without either side presenting anything concrete around why it should or shouldn't be done..."this could prevent another attack", "the FBI can listen in on my calls". typical government and corporate garbage...scare the regular people in to picking sides and fighting with each other while nothing actually gets done.

This would be great except for the fact that Apple already has the technology to unlock it and has used it in the past. Go to the NY Daily News dot com, they have a story about it also, Apple's lawyers didn't say it wasn't true either only that the number of phones claimed to be opened sounded a bit high. I don't know why people believe that Apple didn't have this technology already.

I'd like to get behind these causes but then you have Dylan Noble who's story hasn't hit main stream media which means that all the media wants to do is perpetuate racial tension and will not be happy until there's a full scale race war.

Let's say for shits and giggles that the FBI did pull valuable information and was able to prevent another attack, would anyone opinion about the unlocking or the FBI be any different? Would any of you have changed your mind about Apple's stance? Of course not, you would just find something complain about so why is this still being talked about...nothing, absolutely nothing would make anyone feel any different, you people just need something to complain and be mad about...

why do people feel entitled to know if what was found on the phone was useful or not? Perhaps sharing that could've been part of the negotiation with Apple but, that didn't happen. You're entitled to the same level of information as any other open and on-going investigation by law enforcement. Why don't you take a trip to your local police station and ask them for all of the information they have on all of their open murder, robbery and home invasion cases and see the response you get... Apple had the choice to work with the FBI behind the scenes and set the parameters around how such a tool would be used, under what circumstances it would be used and who would hold ownership and operation of the tool but they decided to jump on a soapbox and preach against it and the worldwide impact such a tool would have in the wrong hands...Apple forced the FBI's hand and anything that happens from this point on is just as much Apple's fault as it is the FBIs. Apple was stupid for thinking they were going to beat the FBI.

Whenever they want??? What are you talking about? They would still require probably cause. If law enforcement just ran up, grabbed your phone and began to pull your data it would fall under illegal search and seizure. The same laws that protect you from having law enforcement just come in to your house and search it would be used to protect your data on your phone. Your collection of dick pics are of no concern to the government.
