  • Are the iPhone 13 differences that noticeable?

Apple did not increase the prices this year! In fact they decreased the price of both the iPhone 13 and Mini by $30 while doubling the base storage capacity.

  • Apple Pay limit to increase to GBP 100 from October 15 in UK

From a UK article back in 2017:

Apple Pay doesn’t face that limit, because it’s more secure than a traditional contactless payment, but not all terminals were upgraded to distinguish the difference. Now, over half can, which could accelerate Apple Pay’s gains in the UK.”

  • New EU rules would force Apple to open up iMessage

FIRST: For those of you who are unaware, all major cellular carriers in the U.S. and probably in the EU and elsewhere are now actually data only (LTE and 5G) but Calls (VoLTE, HD Voice, VOIP, etc.), SMS, and some MMS are not charged as data or at all depending on your plan. Thankfully, the interoperability between carriers still works as usual as far as we the customers are concerned. However, cellular carriers have left us with the lowest common denominator, meaning no video calls without third party apps and problematic/marginal MMS.

SECOND: The EU has realized that the cellular carriers of the world will never come up with a viable solution to all of the things that it would like and has decided that it will just threaten the big four with huge fines and see if they come up with a solution. Not going to happen!

  • Netflix now features an external subscription button on iOS

Didn’t anyone read the article before they commented? Netflix has not allowed new in app (iTunes) subscriptions since 2018.

  • Google keeps trying to hammer on Apple for not adopting RCS

The point, however, is that SMS needs to go away completely, not be a fallback at all, it sucks.
SMS absolutely needs to stay mostly as is as the simple messaging system that works for 99.99% of all carriers.

MMS which currently works by using SMS and essentially adding or storing a link to photos, videos, or groups of phone numbers for group messaging, is what needs to be replaced by RCS/Chat.

  • iPhone 15 Pro rumored to get Thunderbolt connectivity

Ming-Chi Kuo did not suggest that any iPhone 15 would have Thunderbolt. Only SS (Super Speed), which is much cheaper. (5/7)
My latest survey indicates all 2H23 new iPhones will abandon Lightning and change to USB-C, but only two high-end models (15 Pro & 15 Pro Max) will support the wired high-speed transfer, and the two standard ones (15 & 15 15 Plus) still support USB 2.0 same as Lightning. — 郭明錤 (Ming-Chi Kuo) (@mingchikuo) November 17, 2022

  • Got a new iPhone 5s or earlier? Don't try to activate it on Verizon [u]

The 5 and 5s have LTE which works for data but they don’t have VoLTE for voice.
