  • Apple's Ive and Newson unveil unadorned fir trees for Claridge's Christmas installation

That just looks boring and uninspired.  Christmas is a season of celebration and joy (and this is explicitly called the Claridge CHRISTMAS tree installation).

There is nothing about that setup that makes me feel joyful.  Complete fail by Ive.  Ive is usually really good about tying function and design, but this just looks like some shallow attempt to produce something "chic."
In a huge fan of Ive's work and have been for a long time.

    But it I agree here.

Great design relates to the purpose. This does not.

Does it it look nice? Sure.

But it it's almost spooky. Not celebratory.

Actually I have to disagree, the set seems like it is meant to instil a sense of serenity. The true meaning of Christmas is not about gold, glitter and presents, it's about celebrating the birth of Jesus and to reflect for a moment on the sanctity of life. If anything this set seems to capture this feeling way more than any other over the top treasure trove of presents I have seen throughout the years. If this set is supposed to communicate what this holiday is really about, Ive is spot on here.

  • New iPad Pro refresh rumors point to new 'iPad mini Pro,' True Tone across the line

If I were Apple I'd drop the mini and lower the price of the 9.7" iPad to the price of the mini. Then lower the price of the iPad Pro models down to the price of the 9.7" iPad. Just in time for the holidays too. Apple's doesn't need an iPad mini Pro model. There are way too many models of iPads as it is between the different screen sizes, old models, new models, Wifi models, LTE models, Pro models, capacity models, etc. Its just too much IMO.
whats wrong with having more choices?

people keep grumbling there isn't a 4 inch flagship iPhone.
Yet when Apple is rumored to make a flagship iPad mini people say its too much.

    iPad Mini - 2 models
    iPad Air - 2 models
    iPad Pro - 2 models

Whats wrong with that? Why limit choices just to claim simplicity? Makes no sense.  Most people know what size they want. Then they choose between 2 models. Easy as pie.

In fact I know many people who would LOVE to buy a 12.9 non-Pro version of the iPad. They don't need pencil support, smart connector, or extra speakers. They just want a larger iPad Air. Truth is Apple will release what ever models that make sense and can sell enough units. If they release a Mini Pro, then from their research they determined there is ample demand for a high powered mini iPad
It is reminiscent of the period at Apple when Jobs wasn't there, Apple had a huge lineup of products, some good and some bad but in the end the choice in products was too big. When Jobs returned he pointed this out and tried to change it.
Apple became big again by being simple and elegant. Having three options is more than enough, it makes it easier on Apple to maintain and supply, easier on stores for keeping inventory and easier on the consumer when making a choice on what device to buy.

In my opinion Apple does best when they have no more than 3 models of all products.

iPhone, iPad, iPod, iMac, macbook, appleWatch

Small and light model (Air and mini lineups) -> cheaper for users with low demands, most portable model
Regular model -> average consumers that with a good balance between portability and utility. (slightly bigger in size, more emphasis on features)
Pro model -> for Pro users (hence the pro lineup), have the latest of all the technologies with the flip side that it is more expensive and maybe a little bulkier.

  • Investigators raid Samsung's Korean HQ amidst country's presidential scandal

Thank you for the articles, should be interesting reads indeed.
While I hope severe punishment is carried out if any crimes come to light, I doubt that it will bring the entirety of the company down.
Despite that fact that I have never found Samsung products appealing I do believe that Samsung is sorely needed to balance out the global market and to avoid concentrating market power in the hands of even less corporations that it is already.
