I think that the evidence of what Android almost looked like pre-iPhone (similar to Blackberry) compared to how it looked post-iPhone is a massive tell of where the industry was immediately headed. None of the major technology players had even considered the ramifications of what Apple instilled within the first iPhone. 

If not for Apple, would the smartphone market have ever become what it is today? It’s hard to say; maybe eventually. But regardless of your stance on the best OS and hardware combo, iPhone certainly sped the evolution of consumer technology up quite a bit. Even though it’s only been 10 years since the first iPhone was unveiled, look at how far the market has come! Even back then, whoever would’ve imagined that mobile technology could be capable of everything it can do today with the promise of even more on the very near horizon?

The mobile technology space has exploded, and it all started because of iPhone.
