Epic Games CEO criticizes Apple's App Store policies in interview
"If every developer could accept their own payments and avoid the 30% tax by Apple and Google we could pass the savings along to all our consumers and players would get a better deal on items."
A: This ignores the cost to the developers of setting up and running their own stores.
B: No they wouldn't "pass the savings along". they'd pocket it.
This is totally self serving and disingenuous statement by Sweeney. -
Twitter staff nearly decimated by Musk's 'extremely hardcore' demand
I ran across an idea on another site that made me think a bit. It goes like this:
Musk is in hock for most of the $44bn.
But if Twitter goes bankrupt he could be hoping to say it was unsalvageable, and walk away from the debt.It would all depend on how the loan was written. If it’s to him personally, then he’s stuck. But if it was that the lender would own a share of Twitter, or if Twitter is on the hook, then it might work.Hmmmmm……
(How did he get into this mess? He shot his mouth off, the stock he owned went up and he was facing serious stock manipulation charges from the SEC. Trying to get out of that he ended up here.) -
Apple unveils new 13-inch MacBook Pro with Magic Keyboard
harry wild said:So...they just swapped out the keyboard, LED screen and the CPU and memory! It probably took Apple engineer in charge about 1/2 hour to do and have it go to quality control. Will Apple give us a gold MacBook Pro color?
In this case the updated MBP does not use the same keyboard and screen as the 16". They had to be designed from scratch for the smaller chassis. Then they were tested and then redesigned and retested to make sure they worked properly. As far as the CPU, that likely at least required fresh firmware, if not board level changes, either of which would have had to be designed, tested, adjusted to fix any unexpected problems, adjusted again, and so on. Even minor changes are a hell of a lot of work by a team that put in a lot of hours to make it work right. In some ways it's harder to update an existing product than it is to blue sky design a new product without any legacy constraints. -
Twitter lays off staff including whole ethics team, temporarily closes offices
mikethemartian said:mbs will now be in charge of ethics at Twitter.
I was reading on the BBC this morning that many of the employees were notified they were getting laid off, by their company computers having been remotely wiped.
Just a piss poor way to handle staff, but then Musk is known for this. I’m sure the remaining staff are feeling REALLY secure. I would not be surprised if a lot of them jump ship as soon as a recruiter calls, and they will be calling. So all of the people who know how to keep Twitter systems working will be gone.
Yeah this is going to end well. /s -

Florida wants Apple & Google to label apps made outside US
I got news for a lot of you, software “produced in America” likely uses coders located remotely all over the world. A statement that it was American software would mean nothing in many cases. Example: the number of antivirus and computer security companies using their core engine and data from Kaspersky. The software may be made in the US, but the important part is Russian. -
