Apple's biggest innovation of the last 25 years isn't the iPhone
Goodness, reading the comments on this article, you'd think that Apple is a political party.
DED,
thanks for the article. Always enjoy them! I think calling out macOS as an inovation is a great jumping off point. I work in IT in a company that primarily uses macs. We're a rare breed, but I love Apple computers. Using macs for work is so enjoyable and filled with small innovations. Having a predictable release cycle helps us plan our hardware deployment policies and ensure we're ready for the next OS.

Apple News Live Activities for tracking election results now live on iPhone
I was really pleased with the apps performance. I was watching it most of the night. It was so much better than the main stream media in terms of timliness, usefulness, and lack of bias. I didn't have to worry about Apple's partisanship, it was just good and useful data in a visually appealing form.
I think it further drove home the point that legacy media is being left in the dust. And good riddance I say. -

Apple calling everything that it released 'intelligent' won't help it catch up
Sorry, strong disagree on many of your points. Apple is refreshing in the way it's approaching AI. They are doing their time-tested playbook of waiting for others to enter the market first and learning from their competitors mistake. Then Apple sets a vision of how a new technology might be used in some very accessible ways to everyone. Then they hook it into their Apple ecosystem like only they can, since no other tech company has close to the ecosystem that Apple does.
For example: my 72 year old mother will never use chatGPT in her life, but she'll definitely use apple intelligence when it comes to her phone. She might use it to proofread a text she's going to send or create a fun litle emoji. Apple has a better vision for AI than anyone else and just you watch: every other competitor will begin emulating Apple's use of AI. -
25 years of Apple's innovation in selling technology
Pema,
Don't you have better things to do than hold grudges against strangers on the internet? Seriously, get a life.
As to the content of the article, I liked it alot. It's interesting to me how Apple has suceeded in the retail space where all other computer/tech vendors seem to have failed. I think one reason why they work is because the whole experience is designed to showcase the feel of using apple products. To get hands on with them. If you get hands on with windows, it's meh. No exciting features to the lay person and quite frankly: ugly. But if you get hands on with macOS, it's got a bunch of "wow, that's cool" features. Even down to the vibrancy of the screen and the default background image.
I'm glad that Apple continues to innovate and am excited to see generative AI boost SIRI back up to where she needs to be. I want to have a conversation with her like I do with chatGPT. -
