  • Consumer Reports' dismissal of HomePod a familiar tale to Apple fans [u]

All you have to do is follow the money.  From the Consumer Reports site when you click a shopping link (surprisingly it’s Amazon)...”Please note that Consumer Reports collects fees from both eBay Commerce Network and Amazon for referring users.”

Should demonstrate why the Amazon products will almost always top other brands.

  • Smart speaker assistants compared: Siri vs. Alexa vs. Google Assistant

Lol, in other news, let’s test products for tasks they aren’t designed to do, then ding them for it...the Apple hate force is strong in this article...

I have an idea! Why not buy Echo and Google Home if you want all that millenial bullshit running your life.  Those of us who appreciate the MUSIC (you know, the Homepod main selling point) will continue to enjoy our Homepods and the technology within...

  • James Comey tears into Apple, Silicon Valley over encryption policies in new book

Used to be police had to actually search for e idence and “solve” cases.  Now they want to throw out the 4th Amendment, among others, because they are lazy.

And Comey is nowhere near a leader, nor is he loyal to his country.  He stole, and released through a friend, proprietary information (applies to the governmnet too), all to sell a book and make a quick buck.

  • Channel checks, sales data on HomePod likely as wrong as it was about Apple Watch in 2015

    larrya said:
I’m not sure analysts were so wrong about Apple Watch sales in 2015. Something convinced Apple to move from boutique shops in April, to Wal-marts by August. The HomePod is fatally flawed (only 1 streaming service, no stereo, Siri), just like the original watch (too slow, poor battery life, no gps).  It will improve over time, just like the watch did, but right now I have no interest in it and I don’t think I’m alone.
Not sure why people don’t get that if you want to stream lesser services, there are options (Sonos, bluetooth, etc.).  By the way, most, if not all, of the services will play on the HomePod, which I’m sure you already know. HomePod is a great product and I’m no Apple fanboy (their computers, for gaming, suck).

Have no worry though, my purchases of multiple HomePods will help Apple overcome your boycott!

  • Lennar now integrating Amazon Alexa surveillance into new home construction

The Information reports that Amazon is gaining an edge on Apple with smart home builders so AI uses it as an opportunity to smear Amazon and accuse the company of surveillance. Why am I not surprised. OK AI if Amazon is such a bad actor that people will need to “rip microphones out of their own ceilings” why isn’t Apple doing more to court home builders to make HomeKit and Siri the preferred platform for smart homes? Also why does AI have such a bias against data? Companies using data to provide better products/services isn’t a bad thing. I think we all know if Apple was the leader in this space AI wouldn’t be complaining and certainly wouldn’t be calling it “surveillance”.
Perhaps because Apple values privacy and believes their customers do as well?  I know I would never knowingly buy a house or rent an apartment with built in microphones that I would never know if I had absolute control.  And I certainly wouldn’t buy only to have to spend my own money to remove big brother.
Not sure why so many folks are in such a rush to live in “1984”.

  • Canadian sues Apple over Apple Watch scratches that he made [u]

SMH.  How much force would one have to actually pound the strap being changed into the screen to scratch it?  Not even sure why band would be in contact with screen.  Been wearing my watch daily since I got it day one of release (AW3), on my third band, and zero scratches.  Lawn work, car work, wrestling with two large 50 lb plus dogs, landscaping with bricks and gravel, etc.  Not one scratch.  Banged into car doors, walks, fences.  Not one single scratch.  Bet if I took an awl and dug into the screen I could scratch it.

Agree the Canadian identification is unecessay.  Just as many dumbass gold diggers in the US and around the world.  Hence the stupid crap like “Hot coffee is hot”.  Now Apple will have to open AW with a screen that reads “if you pound objects into screen, it may scratch”.

  • iPhone XR demand reportedly forcing Apple to cut production expansion plans

While I don’t consider myself a fanboy, I do appreciate Apple quality.  While I have a 12.9 iPad Pro on the way, I just can’t find a reason to upgrade my 7Plus.  I was interested in the XR until I saw I would lose camera quality over my 7+.  I think if they would put the same camera that’s at “least” in the 7+, if not one of the newer models, XR would draw more interest (not saying it’s not, but based on the amount of recent Apple commercials I’m seeing for it, seems it’s not).

Wife and I both have 7+, she has 2017 10.5 iPad Pro, I’m replacing 2015 iPAD Pro with 2018 arriving Wednesday.  Both are wearing Watch 3.  5 HomePods and uncountable iPods laying around in drawers going back to first edition.  IPhone owner since first release (and it still plays music for me!).  So I’m not bashing Apple.  I just think they didn't hit the right marketing spot with the XR. In my opinion, it needs to be about $100 less across all storages and it needs a better camera.

  • Apple Watch Series 5 -- Review, one month later

@Airnerd. Wondering if something isn’t wrong with your watch(es). I have a 44mm 5 LTE version. Put it on when I get up, usually around 5am. Throughout the day, I walk one dog 3 miles, one dog 2 miles, and bike anywhere from 3-11 miles. For each of those, I have music streaming from the watch (don’t carry my phone) and either outdoor walk or outdoor cycling workout app running. That’s 45 minutes first walk, 30 minutes second walk, and 15-55 minutes third walk. Throughout the day I stream music when taking dogs out for bathroom breaks or additional running in yard (50 and 60 pound working dogs with LOTS of energy). I almost always have 10% or more battery when going to bed around 9 pm. Never has the battery been below 5%. I have noticed sometimes my charge is only somewhere in the mid 80s or mid 90s when I grab watch off charger in the morning, but my charger sits on dog crate that dog gets in and out of occasionally at night. Not sure if he’s knocking it loose or the battery stops charging it intentionally like the iPhone does. I went from Watch 3 to Watch 5 as well, but I haven’t seen any battery degradation. I do close out the background apps on the watch at least once a day. Thus is all on 6.0.1, but has been the same since new.
