    The reason to use google Fi is the no additional cost 4g LTE data in something like 140 countries. When the plane lands you have LTE data and voice in seconds.  Cost is the same $10 a gigabyte as in the USA.  For USA only, it is too high for data. 
    I recently used my Google Pixel 2 in Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand.
    But I also carry an iPhone 6s which I buy a local sim to put in. High speed data is much cheaper with a local Sim. 
    For T-mobile service in the USA, sign up for th MVNO Mint Mobile 1 year prepaid service - $20 for 8gb 4g LTE data or $25 for 12gb. These prices and data are available at the end of January.
