  • Google Chrome is the most vulnerable browser in 2022

    This is an absurd interpretation of the data. Having the most vulnerabilities listed in a database does not make Google Chrome "the most vulnerable".  Is Opera the most secure due to its lack of reported vulnerabilities? 

    Google has the most listed because it's by far the most popular browser and its vulnerabilities are worth quite a bit. (both by reporting them to Google for a bounty and on shady blackhat markets). Google also has a much more transparent vulnerability reporting process. Vulns reported to them privately usually still get listed but Safari vulns reported privately to Apple generally due not unless the security researcher does it themselves.  Also the vast majority of these vulnerabilities do not bypass the multiple layers of sandboxing employed. This is true for both Safari, Chrome, Firefox, etc.  So alone most of the these vulnerabilities can't be used to exploit someone.

    All that said, I do think Safari's security is likely superior to Chrome's but not because it has fewer vulnerabilities listed. Safari lags behind Chrome significantly in implementing new more powerful web APIs and this greatly reduces the attack surface area.

  • Anker launches new Thunderbolt 4 dock with 12 total ports

    This is NOT compatible with any M1 machine, including M1 Macbooks.  At least officially. I think you should fix that reference in this article.

    - The Amazon product page for this dock says "It doesn’t work with ... M1 MacBooks."
    - The only Q/A answer also says "please note that the 12-in-1 Thunderbolt 4 Dock is incompatible with Mac Mini M1 or MacBook M1."
    - It also highlights this incompatibility in this product info image



    I feel bad for Anker since this article might create some very upset customers that are sad/confused their new Anker dock doesn't work with their M1 Macbooks.


    edit: on my own editorial note, I don't see much reason at all to use a Thunderbolt 4 dock if it doesn't work with M1 machines.  Since all compatible Macs will be Thunderbolt 3 anyway?  Unless you need a lot of monitors, for $300 I would go with the amazing CalDigit TS3+ dock: https://www.caldigit.com/ts3-plus/

    Almost no one has video calls with a 1080p+ resolution.  For Zoom, only the special business/education customers can get 1080p video, and even then it requires contacting support and asking them to enable it.

    For the non-video call use cases, a better camera would be great, but I suspect that Apple knows that for most people it won't matter.

    Hey Andrew, can you share the specific settings for your Unigene Heaven benchmark?

    You mentioned the default settings but in the very fuzzy screenshot, I can see "Custom" so I know it's not one of their Basic or Extreme presets.  If you're not using a preset you need to share all the Settings details to replicate. (antialias, volumetric shadows, etc).  Just curious because I want to compare this against my Radeon 580 eGPU setup!

    Also as Mdriftmeyer said, Unigine is really just a benchmark of OpenGL performance...something using Metal will perform way better.  But with that caveat, it can still be useful if you want to understand the card's performance for OpenGL games (i.e. most games....)
