  • Instagram being blamed for iPhone 15 overheating issues

I have an iPhone X that cannot be upgraded to ios17 as it is now deemed a legacy device (but still runs fine on ios 16).

If i use the daily telgraph app (uk news) it heats up after a while and becomes really hot. I check the battery usage and lo-and-behold the cpu use for the app is very high. Quit the app and it cools down pretty fast. That is not the phone or ios 16 but shoddy code in the app.

So, just saying, third party apps are sometimes the culprit !

  • Six years ago, the iPhone X set the table for everything that has come since

Still enjoy my iphone 10. Only issue I ever had with it (and still do) is faceid never worked in bright sunlight. Size is great too, not too big, not too small. Battery still lasts 24 hours, even after 5 years.

  • iCloud Private Relay flaw leaks users' IP addresses

Isn't this service currently in beta, and as such there  will be bugs found to be ironed out ? Don't see any mention of this in the article, so i could be wrong,.....

I'm assuming they'd still work if you use a VPN to appear out of the country to Apple servers.

I expect Signal would still just work, I can't imagine they'd go to any actual effort to break it, they'd just not "officially" support UK users.
They would be removed from the UK version of the App Store and as they are mostly indexed by telephone number they would disable any account that used a UK phone number.

While you may be able to do some workarounds the loss of critical mass and the fact you'd only be able to communicate with existing international users makes it not worth it.

Sadly I expect the current government in the UK thinks that Apple/Meta and Signal are bluffing, they aren't they are deadly serious and the UK is a small enough market they can that walk away from it.
The UK is largest market in EMEA by quite a margin.

  • Apple releases second developer beta for macOS Big Sur 11.1

I've had no issues since upgrading from Mojave, though you do have to leave your machine alone to do its thing, it spends a lot of time without the slider moving and you can think nothing is happening (maybe stuck - it's not !). Oh, and don't install it as a second O/S alongside Mojave, big mistake, causes no-end of issues. This introduced me to the recovery partition (which did not work) and recovery manager over the network (which did not work, application lock, and basically stuffed, so deleted new BS partition and crossed my fingers and upgraded Mojave, which went fine). You cannot any longer pop in the USB stick with the installer on it, format the complete disk in disk utility, and install. Your mac is now linked to the Apple mothership, and the info on the mothership clearly easily can be wrong, at which point the survey says NO (planet with an exclamation mark) and an error. I wonder how long it's been this way ? You live and learn. Time for a nice cold beer I think.

  • As you may expect, the internet already says that Apple's headset is doomed, apparently

Anyone remember Michael Dell saying that the Apple Stores will be a flop ? Gateway was closing its stores and there was a strong consensus everywhere that retail and computer manufacturers just did not match well together?

  • Several new Macs will launch at WWDC, says Gurman

Looking forward very much to a 15 inch macbook air. Used a 15 pro when working for 20 years, now retired with 13 inch mba the only thing i would like is a 15 inch screen with same light weight and great battery life.

  • Apple testing M4 MacBook Air with ultra-wide camera & Center Stage support

I have a late 2018 MBA Last of the intels. Love it but have been hankering for more speed as the macos updates have steadily hamstrung performance.

Weight for me is everything as i carry it around everywhere. After that it's clarity of screen and then battery and performance.

Some super deals here in the UK on the M3, but may wait until the m4 appears. Really hope they don't add more weight!
