Masimo open to an Apple Watch settlement, if Apple would only call
There were reported talks within Apple to buy Masimo but they decided not to.Prior to the Trade Commission ruling, Apple was one vote away in the jury trial from being found not guilty of patent infringement (5-1). This resulted in a mistrial. Apparently during the trial, Apple paraded its development team to the stand and each declared under oath how the Apple watch component was developed NOT using Masimo technology.Btw Masimo was originally claiming $3B in damages at the trial but the judge threw out a bunch and it was reduced to $1.xB. -
Congressman says antitrust hearing confirmed Apple's 'deeply disturbing' behavior
Epic, thru Fortnite, made approx $1.5B last year selling to teens, pre-teens, the digital equivalent of the paper cut-out clothes, costumes, dolls, etc, that used to be included for free in Sunday newspapers — And that, as far as I can tell, no one but Epic can create and sell - and somehow Apple is overcharging and is the bad guy? Lol
And given Epic‘s recent claims in its court filings about its importance to the world community as a communications platform, it seems fortnite is becoming a platform...albeit a virtual one. Perhaps they shouldn’t be allowed to compete on their platform either?Anytime I’ve bought something “in-app” that was pricey, it wasn’t Apples 30% I was rolling my eyes over, it was that net 70% on something that has a marginal cost of near zero to produce the +1 unit that I bought. Useless items like skins and game packs especially so.

Russia's top tech giant is harvesting data from millions of iOS users
“ The apps that use the AppMetrica API include games, messaging services, location-sharing tools, and "hundreds" of virtual private network (VPN) apps. Seven of the VPNs that researchers identify explicitly target a Ukrainian audience. Total downloads of apps with the API reach the hundreds of millions.”Name names please -
Nobody will win the Apple versus Epic Fortnite battle, not even consumers
igorsky said:svanstrom said:And it's also a question about where the line between "no work" and "all the work" goes… If I release an app that is free, and then to be useful everyone had to buy in-
app-bucks, would you still say that Apple should get zero money because it required zero effort? -
Does Apple's platform need to be opened up?
Not sure why anyone should expect the Apple platform to be treated like a “public good” to be opened up via governmental order to be harvested by other private money making entities.Nerd and billionaire tech-bro rage over “our way is better” issues should only be decided by the market. Those with a better way can use their billions to invest in an alternative platform (new or existing) that does it “our way” instead of riding the government provided money train to continue spinning out more advertising to and collecting more data from the iphone users. It seems a good chunk of those tech-bro millions and billions, ironically enough, were made in product areas created directly or tangentially by the iPhone while operating under the same Apple rules and on the same Apple platform they now want to use the government to tear open. -
South Korea ends Apple, Google control of app store payments
In the realm of “no good deed goes unpunished”:
remember the days when Tim got standing ovations at the developer’s conference when he announced how many iPhone customers with registered credit cards were available to the developers and their apps?Apple created the concept and market.Smh. Someone name me a developer who was actually worth a crap that went out of business solely because of the App Store overhead charge or because they had to sell only in the App Store.Go ahead shoot yourselves in the foot. I would gladly pay an Apple Prime subscription amount to buy solely via an Apple curated store and it’s benefits. And once you curry favor of governments to do your bidding and let politics determine what competition success and failure is, let’s let Apple put a couple dozen of its $B in cash into strategic app development efforts and let’s see what the market looks like. Anyone other than MS, Google and Apple doing the big three “Office type apps” these days? -
