  • Two new Macs with M2 Max & M2 Ultra being tested ahead of WWDC

On May 29, 2023, Costco began a sale on the M1 Max-based Mac Studio (the base processor model with 32 GB memory and 512 GB storage), selling it for $1,499.99, or $500 below Apple's price. Then the rumors started spinning up that WWDC might indeed bring us new M2-based Mac Studios, despite months of rumors suggesting a spec-bumped Mac Studio (with M2- or M3-based processors) might be coming but not until late 2023.

I for one hope the rumors are true and that M2-based Mac Studio models are only days away. Despite my really needing at least 1 TB of storage, I almost bought the Costco deal since the price is so good. Now it seems smart to wait at least a few more days — even though it means missing the Costco deal, which expires June 2.

That Costco was offering 25% savings on the M1 Max-based Mac Studio base model makes me think they have insider knowledge of Apple's plans. We don't usually see that kind of savings on older models until after new models are already on the market, right?
That's kind of like the Day after Xmas fire sale at Adorama level of discount. Apple is definitely offloading old merchandise and clearing the warehouse for the M2 Studio.

It's kind of unfortunate that the Studio Max and Ultra models tend to ship at the end of the processor model life cycle. Same thing happened with the M1 Studio that came out right before Apple announced the M2 processor generation, which makes it tempting to wait for the next gen (M3) instead before dropping $5 grand on a new computer.

  • New iPads Pro, iPad Air, and USB-C accessories expected in early May

Wow, $1500 for an iPad Pro being considered the low end of price spectrum? and that's probably for the entry level storage capacity, that means the 1 and 2 Tb variants are likely to hit the $2K mark for a device that people mostly use to read the news and watch movies, now you are talking real inflation.

  • iPhone 17 Air could be Apple's thinnest iPhone yet, with a thickness of just 6mm

Wait till you see Tim making the rounds on morning talk shows touting the transformational capabilities of the iPhone Air then you too will realize you were wasting your time and money on Ozympic when you should be getting an iPhone Air instead.

Suddenly you will notice a new spring in you step and the chicks will be all over you, that's how powerful it is, and it is only the beginning.

  • Trump's 'Liberation Day' tariffs hit every one of Apple's international manufacturing part...

Suddenly the rumored price of $2.2K for the iPhone with foldable screen coming in 2026 is starting to look like a good-value bargain compared to a $1.6K for the iPhone 17 pro Max.

What's up with the Mac Studio?
The hope is that Apple announces Mac Studios with M3 Max and M3 Ultra in June. If so, it's right on schedule for M4 versions in June of 2025.

There is speculation that Apple will have a discrete monolithic M3 Ultra chip with a silicon bridge to make a M3 Extreme consisting of 2 M3 Ultra chips. That would be interesting. If so, this could open up a MBP18 model or MBP16 with the M3 Ultra. Just not a lot of customers for a Mac Studio with Ultra or a Mac Pro with Ultra or Extreme.
and by Xmas 2024, you can bet your bottom dollar on an $1600-2400 discount on that Mac Studios with M3 Max and M3 Ultra released in the prehistoric era of June 2024.

It'll be so last year compared to the shiny new M4 Macbooks with all the AI bells and whistles.

  • New iPhone SE 4 dummy models hint at design & color updates

If you are going to ditch the familiar Home button in favor of an edge-to-edge display with a notch, why not go all the way and make that notch a dynamic island instead. A notch is so 2017, don't you think?

  • Apple plans another iPhone X style redesign for the iPhone 20

With all the hype and wishful thinking about the foldable iPhone, no one has ever answered the question of how are you supposed to hold it next to your ear to answer calls on such a device, do you need to fold it closed first before answering the call or hold it open like an iPad mini next to your ear, how awkward would that be? Imagine taking such a call while walking your dog in a park and the look on the faces of others walking by !
