They're way too big. Even my 12 mini is way bigger than I need. I don't need a laptop in my pocket. The iPhone 4 size was perfect.

iPhone SE 4 may be what Apple needs to make Apple Intelligence a hit
I hope it'll be small enough to replace my 12 mini. It's a shame iPhones have become the size of small tablets. I don't want that huge screen, I got a Mac and an iPad for that.

Yep – it's kind of weird that the 11-12" form factor hasn't returned yet with the much more energy efficient Apple Silicon chips.
An iPad + keyboard is not a good alternative. Ends up taking up nearly as much weight and space as standard MacBook Air, and doesn't run macOS which is still required for many kinds of jobs.

The 12 mini is about the same size as the iPhone X, and the base model significantly larger. The X is much larger than 8, which is larger than 6 etc.
The 12 mini is HUGE compared to the 4 or 6.
