  • Leaked iPhone 15 Pro images back up solid state button rumor

If implemented the way the trackpad works on the MacBook, it should be fine.  The force touch Trackpad actually is BETTER and more consistent than the mechanical trackpad.  If you didn't know, you probably wouldn't know that it's not a real switch.  The only downside is that it doesn't work with gloves on.

For a phone in your pocket, replacing the mechanical switch means it's less likely to have accidental volume changes, but you need bare hands (or compatible gloves) to operate the volume.

For the mute switch though, the argument of going to a button vs a physical switch is hard to come up with a user argument that it's in any way better.  Cheaper and more waterproof? Maybe.  But from a user standpoint, being able to quickly physically flip a switch and have a clear indicator if you look at it vs a button.  Even if it requires a long press for the button, you can't quickly look at the phone and see the status.  If something on the display need to light up to indicate mute mode, well, now you need to light up the display when you may not want to put your phone into mute.

  • Apple's first foldable screen probably won't be on the iPhone

They can't risk their bread and butter revenue and reputation from iPhones on a folding device imho - risk of customer adoption, failure rates, cost, etc.

Makes total sense to take a low volume, low revenue product like the iPad mini and rerelease it as a folding iPad, roughly phone sized when folded, to gauge demand, understand the failure rates and modalities, etc. If it's a killer product, people who don't typically buy iPad Minis will start adoption them.

Personally, I don't want a folding phone, at least anytime soon, and would find it frustrating to see iPhone adopt this form factor.
I have zero interest in a folding iPad.  It really gains nothing by folding. Folding doesn't make it small enough to put anywhere it wouldn't already be able to go.

But, a folding phone would make sense. Make it be able to fold so it fits in my pocket, but can fold open to a larger screen size.  I don't want one of the huge phones available now, but if it folded in half, well, now that's exciting.

There are other foldables on the market today.  Unfortunately, I haven't met anyone yet that has gotten theirs to last a significant period of time.  If you get one, take advantage of the trade in every year program for sure!!

  • iPhone 17 Air rumored to shrink battery & lean on iOS 26 to keep up

Who keeps asking Apple for an even thinner iPhone with worse battery life? I’ve never met anyone with those requirements.
100%.  I want a SMALLER phone, aka the mini.  A little fatter so it lasts a couple of days would be perfectly fine.  Giant phones don't fit comfortably in my pocket and therefore would get left home instead.  Making the phone thinner makes it harder to hold as well, so people slap fat cases on it anyway.  What's the point in shaving a millimeter off of the width then??

  • macOS 26 may not support 2018 MacBook Pros, 2019 iMacs, or the iMac Pro

Apple drops support for older machines not necessarily for technical reasons, but for accounting reasons. When Apple decided to give out OS updates for free, they had to account for the future development cost of sale of the machine.  This is for a pre-determined amount of time after the sale of the machine is discontinued.

Apple most certainly helps out the OpenCore Legacy patcher team which allows users to install the OS on older hardware even though it's no longer officially supported by Apple.

For the most part, it's a viable solution to keep older hardware functional. Of course, the speed of the machine is a limiting factor, and there are occasional features that don't work as Apple strips out support for older platforms.

In a non mission critical environment it's quite amazing.  I've got old iMacs all throughout the house now since they are generally free and get to have a current OS on each machine.  It's pretty awesome.

  • Slim iPhone will gain a larger screen in 2027, alongside iPhone fold 2

    Bigger screens.  Yuck.

I want an iPhone mini with a USB-C port.  I want a simplified interface for apps to fit on a small screen, not an app designed for a large screen scrunched down to a tiny size.

The original iPhone really had a lot going for it and it's become excessively complex as time has gone on.

Yeah, I get it, some people feel that the iPhone should do everything.  Making a huge phone for them is great.

But for me, I want the iPhone NOT to be the center of my life. It's an accessory.  When I need to do significant work, that's what my computer is for.  Give me a small lightweight inexpensive  communicator that fits in my pocket.
