  • To no one's surprise, politicians are wrong about iOS 26 message filtering

I'd be happier with a system that spammers would need to pay $1 to the user for each message that ends up getting opened.

  • iPhone 17 Air rumored to shrink battery & lean on iOS 26 to keep up

Who keeps asking Apple for an even thinner iPhone with worse battery life? I’ve never met anyone with those requirements.
100%.  I want a SMALLER phone, aka the mini.  A little fatter so it lasts a couple of days would be perfectly fine.  Giant phones don't fit comfortably in my pocket and therefore would get left home instead.  Making the phone thinner makes it harder to hold as well, so people slap fat cases on it anyway.  What's the point in shaving a millimeter off of the width then??

  • macOS 26 may not support 2018 MacBook Pros, 2019 iMacs, or the iMac Pro

Apple drops support for older machines not necessarily for technical reasons, but for accounting reasons. When Apple decided to give out OS updates for free, they had to account for the future development cost of sale of the machine.  This is for a pre-determined amount of time after the sale of the machine is discontinued.

Apple most certainly helps out the OpenCore Legacy patcher team which allows users to install the OS on older hardware even though it's no longer officially supported by Apple.

For the most part, it's a viable solution to keep older hardware functional. Of course, the speed of the machine is a limiting factor, and there are occasional features that don't work as Apple strips out support for older platforms.

In a non mission critical environment it's quite amazing.  I've got old iMacs all throughout the house now since they are generally free and get to have a current OS on each machine.  It's pretty awesome.

  • Adobe hikes Creative Cloud prices with a rebrand no one asked for

The danger of building a workflow on subscription or cloud software is that the vendor can decide to jack prices or change the product at any time. You're no longer in control financially, and with cloud service, not even in charge of upgrade timing.  If a cloud service decides to change things up right as you're going to press, oh well. Better learn the new layout and fast.

Of course, it's not just Adobe doing it, and with the subscription there's no longer an excuse to use 10 year old versions of the software, but it's still wildly out of control.

  • OpenAI's $6.5B bet on Jony Ive could redefine how people interact with technology

I'm all AI'ed and voice assistantsed out. When Apple said the iPhone 16 was "built for AI" I took that as a warning, not a feature. I just want an off switch, m'kay?

My opinion only. YMMV. If you enjoy this stuff, great. I'm happy for you.
I wholeheartedly agree.  At this point, AI is total chaos.  I never know what my device might decide to do when it's on.  It's trying to help, but often ends up slowing me way down when I'm looking for something.  I want to be in control of my device and have it do what I ask, not the other way around.
