Boss BE10ACP Receiver review: Add CarPlay to your vehicle at a low entry-price

I have had nearly the exact same issues as this commenter... I purchased my unit in August 2021 as a replacement for a cheap Android unit that was in my wife's Honda Fit. The installation was extremely simple and straightforward, and the overall experience was decent at first. We were taking the car on a road trip to Utah from Los Angeles and wanted a better Android Auto experience with a larger screen. Initially the unit worked as expected, but things got worse and worse as time progressed. To this day, Android Auto will start and work most of the time, but at any time it might disconnect, or the unit may completely freeze and reboot on its own... We have tried using alternate cables, different phones, and master resetting the head unit multiple times—nothing fixes these issues as they are deeply rooted in either hardware or software flaws.
Then comes the issue with audio. At seemingly random events upon starting the car, the Audio coming from the unit is sometimes muffled, almost like there is a low pass filter that is crushing the mids and highs. The only way I found to fix that is to turn the car off and back on again, which isn't really a great option by the time you're on the road.
I agree that the idea behind this head unit is great. The price is right, the ideology of making a unit that's primarily Apple CarPlay and Android Auto accessible is right, and the large form factor capacitive touch display from a single din slot is right. What it comes down to is the manufacturers incompetence or lack of execution of making quality firmware and software which has crippled a great idea to being a terrible one.
I truly would not recommend this unit to anybody and would highly recommend spending the little bit of extra money on a brand name unit like Sony, Pioneer, or Kenwood that has a capacitive touch screen, even if the display is a smaller 6.9 in and just fills a double din space ( if you go on Crutchfield's website, you can sort and filter head units that have capacitive touch screens). I have also reached out to support at boss and had the exact same reaction as this commenter. They do not care about their customers or the customer experience with their product.
