  • Apple insists 8GB unified memory equals 16GB regular RAM

It is worth noting, that Adobe recommends 16gb ram for Lightroom on both windows and mac.

Apparently there are some issues with Adobe's memory management with apple silicon. If this is resolved, then I guess Apple might be correct!

  • Apple Notes in iOS 18 looks to up the ante with Microsoft OneNote

If Apple Notes is to truly compete with OneNote, then it needs to be cross-platform. I use a Windows PC at work, and as such, use OneNote for work-related notes. In a way, it's useful that it is separate from my personal notes, but it would be useful if I had direct access to my Apple Notes within Windows. Or at least update the cloud web browser version to bring feature parity with the native mac/ios versions as it's currently missing crucial features.

Adobe.  *sigh*.  They go their own way on lots of things - they also got caught flatfooted on the switch to Intel.  That part where Jobs reminded everyone that they'd been telling devs to use Xcode for years, so now you can flip a switch on the compiler?  Yeah, Adobe was rolling their own and spent the better part of a year before they had PS native on Intel.  For contrast, watch this ( skip to the portion from 11:00 - 16:00)

Yes. And the frustrating thing is, that so many "creatives" like myself use Adobe software almost all day, every day, and many of us choose MacOS over Windows to run it on. I would even go as far as to suggest that Adobe users are the core user base of Macbook Pros.

Considering how close Apple and Adobe's relationship has been over the years (pretty much since the invention of postscript), and they were at the M1 launch (IIRC) espousing how easy it was to transition software to Apple Silicon AND their own system requirements recommend at least 16GB ram for most of the creative suite. There is no sense in releasing a Macbook with the Pro moniker with only 8GB ram.

  • Masimo CEO: Apple users are better off without Apple Watch pulse oximetry

When my wife was very poorly after having Covid, the GP gave her an oximeter and told her to use it several times a day, log the results and if it goes below 95%, call emergency services or go straight to A&E.

She didn't have to continually measure nor did she have to wear it overnight.

As such, I would guess for most people with these types of health problems that need occasional monitoring, the Apple Watch oximeter is just fine. If you have a health problem that needs continual monitoring, then obviously an Apple Watch isn't up to the task, and nor is an off-the-shelf oximeter. You'll probably be in hospital.

Regular people do not load 40GB of RAW picture(s) image on their laptop or desktop.
Regular people do not compile application and test complex enterprise software.
Then those people don't need a Macbook PRO. A lesser specced Air would be more than ample.

Why the professional people complain about RAM size? Either your company willing to pay what they need or your own business can paid off higher RAM upgrade.
    It is business expenses.

If regular people think they need more RAM then they still stuck on old windows experience.
I disagree. Not every "professional" person can justify and write off the cost. I have a work-issued PC in the office for my job as a graphic designer. But I still want a high enough spec machine for my own work outside of my job - and I just happen to prefer mac rather than windows for my personal stuff.

There's plenty of amateur photographers and other creatives who like using Macs who do process loads of raw images on a regular basis (actually, I do this too)

Or there's the army of video bloggers and youtubers who regularly process ultra-HD footage as a hobby.

If I'm going to be plonking down a substantial amount of money for my hobby and personal work, I'd rather future-proof it by getting more RAM than the base model so it will last me at least the next 5-7 years.
