Valve Steam Deck review: Mac users can welcome back 32-bit games
I love my Steam Deck. That said, I can totally see why this is an unnecessary product for most people. I'm a PC Gamer, and having the ability to travel with my entire library and have my saves sync up between the Deck and my PC is awesome. However, like all PC games, it does require some tinkering in the graphics settings to achieve maximum performance. Unlike on a regular PC though, you're tinkering the settings to balance both performance and battery life. Also, while you can use a Steam Deck with a mouse and keyboard, the point of a handheld is to use the handheld controls. Not every game is controller compatible and some will force you to either map your own buttons or use a Steam Community controller layout. The handheld controls are extremely comfortable though, and the fact the Deck is made of plastic keeps it much lighter than it looks.I also like to play FFXIV, but I own the windows version and NOT the Steam version, which required some work around to get it fully functioning on Steam Deck. Nothing crazy, but for casual users who may not be versed in PC gaming, it may be too much.As I said before, I absolutely love my Steam Deck. But this is very niche product aimed at a very specific crowd, and it's important to remember that.
