  • SiriusXM review: Great, except for a terrible CarPlay execution

I have enjoyed Sirius X:M radio since 2002. It has been installed in all eight of my HONDAs. I recently purchased a 2023 EXL hatchback, and it does NOT have Sirius/XM installed on this model. I had no idea this was the case until I was pairing my Bluetooth radio. I tried using CarPlay today and it is not a good solution. I was waiting 45 minutes for just the news stations to load, which still hasn’t happened. This was obviously a corporate decision which was really stupid, and created a lot of problems for people like me, and many of you. From the research I did yesterday, the most professional solution is to purchase a satellite tuner kit from Vais Technology in Colorado. They make several different models, depending on the make of your car. The kit I am buying is $350 and then you have to have it installed which would cost about $100-$150. You don’t see any of the parts except for about 3 inches of a USB cable that needs to be plugged into your USB port when you’re using SiriusXM. It’s a pretty clean install. And it will work through your radio, and that is preferable to me. I did not want to have my iPhone charging at 100% constantly and I did not want to buy an unlimited data plan, just to use XM .Had I known this before I purchased the car, I would’ve made that part of my negotiation knowing it was going to cost me another $500 to make this work with the least amount of hassle. I wrote a letter to HONDA and called them as well, complaining about removing this option, and not evenmentioning it in any of their literature. And force people to have to use XM with Apple CarPlay.
