Analysts mostly nonplussed by DoJ suit, and believe Apple will win
Fred257 said:Look, Apple is in the wrong here. They will be found guilty if this goes to trial. Instead, Apple will slowly open up their ecosystem, just watch… IWatches will soon be available on Android. Third party app stores will be available (in very limited ways) in a couple years before trial. Consumers will have more options to customize iOS to their liking. It will be a win for both Apple and consumers. Why? Because I have kept up on a daily basis with Apple News and innovation since 1997 on a daily basis. The only time we had massive amounts of software innovation is n the iPhone was when you could jailbreak your phone. After Apple has closed off this with encryption software innovation has almost come to a screeching halt.
Apple will be able to show most of their customers are happy with Apples closed Eco system and people like you are the extreme minority. This case has no chance of going to trial with these outdated charges. Apple is the one company with the resources to take down this incompetent DOJ quite honestly -

Biden erased many of Trump's initiatives.- Why not this one?!- What's the angle?- Does the administration hate Apple that much that they are looking for Any reason to knock an American company?I appreciate the perspective of nudging Apple to change, but the ridiculous part is using a lawsuit to extract - what? extraction concessions? extract cash? - from Apple. -

This is a great article.
I read through the complaint because I work for an investment firm and had to do it as soon as it came out.
i have to say, this complaint is simply filled with pure idiocy and outdated claims, I am not a lawyer but it’s hard to see how the DOJ can prevail here.
This complaint is a perfect example and great argument for small government and how stupid and outdated these people are quite honestly.
What is the goal here? Are they going to claim Tesla software is a monopoly as well and they have to share it with Chinese companies?
The 5 percent stock loss today is a buying opportunity.

I wonder if Garland and Biden are taking the attitude "let the babies have their bottle", knowing full well that this effort is likely to fail. Some people need to learn lessons the hard way. But as someone who is not an anti-trust zealot and thinks it's vital for Biden to be re-elected so as to avoid a Trump dictatorship, I wish they could have waited to launch their suicide mission until after the election.
If a GHW Bush type person could be the R nominee this year, I'd be very tempted to vote for him as a protest against this kind of stupidity. The country needs a sane center-right political party to maintain policy balance. -

Good perspective in this topic

we have Android and IOS, people can freely chose. Why is this DOJ trying to get involved?
what will be next , All Tesla cars must share and look like Fords? Or Disneyland must look like Yosemite National park to make sure the people who CHOSE FREELY to visit Yosemite don’t feel left out because Disney land is different? -

The Commission conveniently overlooked that it is Spotify that has a monopoly in the EU and is not financially harmed by Apple, even becoming profitable after many years despite Daniel Ek's extravagant CEO lifestyle. Anti steering should have been a simple thing for Apple, with a notice that the app could be purchased on the web. A url could have even have been provided, but I could not see how Apple should provide an actual link on the App Store page. That would be like Walmart arranging for an Uber to take you to Target to buy the product at a lower price. Apple was likely surprised how aggressive Vestager was, and how committed she was to promote EU industry by fining US industry. She is gone. Apple will appeal to the courts, which have in past over ruled the Commission, but the chances are small of reversing this. After all, this is 'only 500 million' and this is Apple...

The smartwatch argument is the stupidest, android watches are locked to android like the AW is locked to the iPhone and android users are generally happy with their watches. And if one wants to buy a Garmin, it will work across devices. iMessage is probably the strongest point but by the time it goes to trial it will be a non-issue.
People are concerned about privacy and safety on-line, And for the price of a Taylor Swift ticket consumers have their choice of an iPhone or a capable android device. Again DOJ what are you doing about TicketMaster?
I don’t see the harm from the consumer perspective. And the DOJ should not be in the business of picking winners and losers as businesses battle-it-out as long as choice is maintained and there is no collusion.
And a 15-30% cut for profit apps is the industry standard. And remember Apple charges only a $100 developer fee for the vast majority of non-profit apps.
I hope Apple fights this tooth and nail. As another commenter that I read started, any loss of market share to Apple (an. American company) will just open up that portion of the market to asian companies. I suspect Garland would be happy to have us use Huawei Hero phones.
This is a complete waste of tax payer money. And of course Trump will exploit this (if he is smart).
Trump can't even post a bond maybe he can get Truth Social to help losing.....
