1 GB app limit is disappointing. Many apps are just shy of 1 GB. I was booting from an external TB4 enclosure and the disk speeds were as fast as the internal drive but Apple Intelligence was disabled...hopefully this will help but they should remove the size limit and give you the option to install and run any app from the external drive specially if it detects its fast enough to do so.
