  • GM's CarPlay replacement doesn't work well, and has a long road ahead of it

This line is preposterous: "Apple was a threat to become "the iOS of the vehicle," said GM SVP of strategy and innovation Alan Wexler. "It's a physical vehicle, but it's an iPhone you're driving."

This is all about increasing revenue. A former coworker left to join GM's in car dev team. Anything I've ever heard about it points to one reason: money.

  • 'Silo' renewed for two more seasons as series finale looms

I must be an anomaly.  I'm enjoying the series immensely.  When I first started watching it, it took a few episodes for me to get into it and once I got invested, it really took off for me.  Sure, it's not the attention-getting, fast-paced action serious, but it does keep my mind entertained.  I like it.  I'm glad to know they're extending it a couple more seasons.
For reference, Silo is currently 8.1/10 on IMDB, 92% on rottentomatoes.
    You're not the anomaly.

  • Upcoming M4-based Mac mini rumored to replace USB-A with more USB-C ports

    edr said:
Really really unfortunate if they remove <any> of the ports the mini currently has. There are still a bunch of items out there that are USB-A only (keyboard/controller dongles and various others, now you will need an ugly USB-C dongle to use them). The pro mini currently has 6 USB ports in the back, 4 USB-C/TB and 2 USB-A, the loss of even a single one of these is really really unfortunate. If they move to having only 3 USB-C ports in the back and 2 in front, this is barely better than just using a laptop.
My M2 mini will be the last device I ever buy with USB-A. Every USB-C added is a win for the majority of people. If you need USB-A for all those keyboards and dongles, I'm certain there's a USB-C to A hub that will do the job for you.

  • Samsung apes Safari's most derided iOS 15 feature

I personally love the new URL bar placement. Ergonomics outweighs my reluctance to change
I hope you're not implying that the 'URL bar placement' was the reason people complained about very public iOS Safari redesign.
Apple fixed many issues during beta, people were 'reluctant to change' because it meant taking some good with a lot bad.
  • Apple polls customers for feedback on streaming video & Apple TV

Bring down the price of ATV4 in Europe and it would be more popular here. I think it currently starts at €179. Seeing as these don't sell in smartphone quantities I think Apple should reduce the price and target market share Apple TV growth over large per unit hardware profits, with a goal to profiting from app sales and services longer term on this device.
179 is a lot, even if you account for the VAT figured into the price. 40% higher than the US no tax price? Isn't VAT around 20%? I know Apple tries to preserve margins by accounting for fluctuations in currency exchange rates over the life of the product, but wow...

I'd like to see a healthier AppleTV app store, I don't know if the current and announced subscription services will move the needle, but I hope something does soon.
