What to expect from WWDC 2021 - and what not to

Apple’s insistence that they will not merge the two platforms is based on an assumption that iPad and Mac each target a sufficient number of unique applications and use cases that the other platform does not adequately satisfy. Moving to a unified platform would mean somebody’s losing something important to their cause.
And yet Apple has had Project Catalyst since 2019: https://developer.apple.com/mac-catalyst/
The idea is to allow developers to use the iPad application source code to make (possibly) more robust versions run on a Mac. So, why not the other way around? If the idea is to allow developers to reach the widest possible audience of users in the Apple ecosystem, it seems logical to target the entire ecosystem, no?
The "Apple Way" isn't to have multi OS devices. It's, "It just works". -

Are you asking for macOS and iPadOS to merge? If not, then recompiling is required.
I do not see a reason why Apple wouldn't ultimately want that to work in both directions. It would be a win-win for Apple, as well as developers. -
GameClub raises $2.5M to bring classic iOS games back to life
Well this is very interesting indeed! They may be able to work with some of the smaller companies on more straightforward games, but I'm not sure whether companies like Firaxis and Slitherine would have any desire to see that happen. Their games and game engines are far more complex, and who knows if any of the bigger players would be willing to produce source code and documentation. I suppose it would all come down to the compensation.
Very interested in seeing where this leads. There are a great many games that were lost in the 64-bit transition. -
Compared: Apple's 2020 iPad Air versus 2020 11-inch iPad Pro
Just the information that I was looking for, so thanks for posting this timely article. I'm disappointed that Apple didn't see fit to bump up the iPad Pro specs. That device should clearly be the high end device, and it's only marginally so with the iPad Air release. It's certainly not worth the extra $200, at least for my personal needs.
