Microsoft creates tool to help Apple users migrate data from Mac to Surface
Laugh all you want. After switching back and forth from her iPad to her MacBook Air, my wife got tired of not having a touch screen on her computer so we switched her to a Dell convertible. Since most of her computer time is spent in Word or Chrome, the move was really easy. The only thing she misses is Face Time. EDIT: It is also worth mentioning that we got the same CPU/integrated-video but a lower resolution screen, for less than 50% of the cost of a new MBA. -
Edge with Chromium for macOS lands Jan 15 with preview available now
philboogie said:Yes, a new version of Edge. But...why? Does it work with all my current Safari Extensions? Work with 1Password? Sync tabs over iCloud? Mute on all tabs.
Just their support of named profiles are enough to make it my primary browser. I am not aware of any other browser that lets me run multiple browser windows all with their own security context so that I can use multiple credentials to the same sites without conflict. -

How Steve Jobs changed the face of retail with the Apple Store
tmay said:.
Apple build a complete store inside a warehouse to simulate an actual store; that was certainly approved by Steve.
That isn't something that is typical, and it was certainly due to Ron Johnson being hired by Steve Jobs, and Steve Jobs certainly had a hand in the design decisions. No one pretends that Steve did it in a vacuum, but he was certainly in charge, so, as they say, the "buck" stopped with him.
Certainly, Apple stores are considered the highest earning by square foot of retail space, so yeah, Apple is a little bit beyond all of the "boutiques" that came before it. -

Twitter tests Safari's 'Reader' mode as default for outside links on iOS
I hope web developers are up in arms over this. It is one thing to spend your time and energy designing and building a modern website and know that a certain portion of your visitors will switch to reading view. It is quite another for Twitter to decide that your effort is worthless and turn all links into stripped reading mode links. -

Apple's new MacBook Pros boast 58% louder built-in speakers thanks to new design
andrewj5790 said:Wait, I thought they were just charging exorbitant prices for basically the same computer... you mean they're actually innovating and putting real improvements
Fixing something that is broken is not innovating... My wife's MacBook Air speakers are so quiet she finally started carrying around a Bluetooth speaker. My Surface Pro 3 is barely loud enough for normal use, but it is much louder than any MacBook I have seen.
