  • Apple increases credit for returning DTK to $500 following developer outcry

so the votes been taken? I agree with dewme, a lease agreement was made, conditions were clear, and developers have overreached on what they feel they're entitled to. dewme's point was made after the 1st 2 paragraphs, the rest was a little repetitive.

  • There's hope that older Macs will be able to run macOS Ventura

Huge numbers? Bullshit. Running current versions of macOS on old hardware is a futile exercise in vanity. The old hardware can’t take advantage of  many of the features of the current OS so you wind up with essentially the same features as the last available macOS for that old hardware. And the Intel code will be going away soon enough, leaving the hackintosh crowd and ‘Ventura on a 15 year old Mac’ in the Jurassic Epoch of the computer universe. But hey, there are still Amiga users out there, right? And Ford Model A clubs, right?
Similar to other responders here, having the flexibility to continue to use some of the latest OS features on my older MacPro has utility to me. My MacPro has a large display and I find working on documents/photos easier at times than on my MacBook Air or Mac mini. When Mac Photos can't read or interpret photos because of the older OS, that's annoying. When a document saved in a different version of pages won't open, that's annoying. Having the ability to update the MacPro and having compatibility is a definite help. Not for everyone, but no need for the put down.

Word of caution too, there are a few older applications that can only run on the older Mac OS, which can't run for me on my newer mac's, so don't lose the opportunity to dual-boot on these older boxes, you probably want to keep that flexibility too, if not now, you may in the the future.

  • Tim Cook wants Apple to buy Manchester United soccer team

Yeah, sounds like BS, Daily Star pretty much confirms that.

Apple is known for its leading position in markets and setting high standards, so if there was an EPL team they'd purchase, surely it'd be Liverpool who are also taking offers now, not ManU. Only reason for ManU over Liverpool, if they really were interested, would be in converting the decrepit Old Trafford stadium

Actually, my wife and I drive Volvos. A 2013 S60 and a 2022 XC40, both Platinum trim, paid for in cash. Between our Apple, Microsoft, two utility and 5 oil company stocks, the dividends throw off enough cash to buy a new one (about $45-$50K each) every two years. My 2013 has only 28,000 garage kept miles on it, so I'm keeping it, even though I'd like a new one. Maybe if Apple paid me a special dividend or raised the dividend, I'd get a new 2023, even though my '13 is near mint. But I'm a lifelong gearhead, so cars are near the top of my spending priorities.
As a boomer (who doesn't find the need to associate with the term as I've moved on), but also a lifelong gearhead, I just wanted to commiserate on your vehicle choices. Those are some pretty poor outcomes for a gearhead. Perhaps we do need that fund me page if that's what your investments are producing for you. Better luck for the future!
