They aren't losing money on each car. They would be profitable with double digit margins if they weren't pouring all the profits from the S and X back into preparing for the 3. So you can't make any assumptions about the costs and margins of the 3.sog35 said:

Imagine how much Tesla is losing on the Model 3 which as 75% of the features the Model S has?
Telsa must be losing at least $10k on each Model 3 they will sell. Even with mass production there is no way that car cost less than $45k to design, build, and market.
