Compared: Apple AirTag vs Tile Pro and Chipolo One Spot
ITGUYINSD said:(...)
What does Chipolo have over an AirTag (tldr, you know...)
- They have a keyring loop so no need for a fob
- They may well be cheaper
- They may not have the anti-stalking feature. This could be a good thing if you are using it as (say) a bike anti-theft device and you don’t want the thief to get a ping! -
'iPhone 14 Pro' to feature 48MP camera, new report corroborates
“It's likely that the device would feature 48MP images for brightly lit subjects”No it wouldn’t. This talk of 48mp cameras is a bit silly. Even in optimum conditions the resultant picture isn’t likely to be 48mp, it will still be 12mp because of 4:1 pixel binning. A 48mp sensor small enough to fit in a smartphone would produce terrible 48mp pictures! -
GM's CarPlay replacement doesn't work well, and has a long road ahead of it
DAalseth said:To GM, the software is a potential big earner for the company. It reckons that digital services could produce up to $25 billion in revenue per yearFor me that’s the deal breaker right there. They want to sell me a subscription along with their car. No, I am not signing up to a subscription just so I can use the features in my car. I stopped even looking at GM when OnStar came out, and this is even worse. If I need roadside assistance or a map, that’s what my phone is for. I don’t need another service, another monthly bill, to get the same thing. -
External drive support in macOS Sonoma is partially broken, and it's probably Apple's faul...

FireWire may finally be dead in macOS 26 & Apple isn't looking back
citpeks said:Remembrances of FireWire would be incomplete without mentioning the procedure to reset the FireWire bus -- unplug all devices, powering down the Mac, and waiting for some time period I don't recall. Or something to that effect.I also remember fondly the Iomega parallel to FW adapter for my portable Zip drive and the FW LaCie 250gb external hard drive. My dear old G3 iMac DV may have only come with a 10gb hard drive and USB 1.0 but FireWire kept it going for years!
