  • Protests at Apple Stores in multiple cities mar iPhone 16 launch

So, boycott them? Then where do we go for our devices, because Apple is bad, but amongst its competitors it is clearly better. No reason not to let the protesters drive them to be better, but boycotting the best of the lot is like that scene in Blazing Saddles where the sheriff holds a gun to his own head.

  • Spotify says Apple One bundle is a 'threat to collective freedom' [u]

When Spotify treats their musicians like human beings, then maybe they will have a valid basis on which to talk about how other companies are bad.

Takes 4 years to get meaningful phone upgrades these days.
Looking to keep my new 15 pro for a good 4 years, maybe 6.
I went three years since my last phone, a 12 Pro Max. This time I got the 15 Pro. I love the smaller size so much! It’s so good I could easily go four years I suspect.

  • 'Foundation' cast and crew sent home as production delayed

I disagree with those panning the show. First of all, for half the cost of a mediocre movie, we're getting a season of this show. And if you spent any time listening to the companion podcast, a lot of choices made for the production make a lot of sense. The fact it doesn't follow the book closely makes sense, even Asimov said the story would require major reworking to be a successful translation to the screen. I hope they don't have to cut much budget-wise. It's a gorgeous show, and I found it very entertaining. To each their own. I tend to lean towards science-fiction that requires a lot from the reader. I like being challenged. (Which leads to my overthinking it sometimes, but I don't think so in this case.)

Sorry folks. This is totally fake. No way 'computational photography' produced this.
I know what you mean. It doesn't need computational photography to occur. This effect can happen on a 35mm film SRL with a horizontal focal plane shutter: if the subject moves as the shutter is travelling horizontally across to expose the film. I believe the iPhone has a rolling shutter — same thing.
Actually, no, this would not happen with a 35mm camera. She would have to be the Flash to move fast enough for this to happen with the movement of the shutter curtains. They move too fast. They open, wait until it's time and then they close. They do not travel slowly across the frame. The travel time is in milliseconds.

Wondering what Matter adds to the equation that Siri Shortcut integration doesn’t.
They're two different things. Siri Shortcuts automate things. Matter lets devices talk without an intervening Hub. I've been waiting for more Switchbot devices to get Matter before getting too deep into it. They're taking way longer than I thought they would.
