  • Second-gen AirTag probably won't ship until 2025

The potentially valuable update is to make the AirTag rechargeable. The form factor for the AirTag fits the watch charger very well. As Apple moves to reducing waste, a rechargeable AirTag 2 helps get a check in the box and reduce the hassle of changing batteries. Potentially that update enables them to reuse thinner batteries (maybe borrow from apple watch?).

  • Mirai-based DDoS attack highlights benefits of Apple's secure HomeKit platform

Really good article. I really enjoy the depth, timeliness and mix of business with technology considerations of some of AppleInsider stories. Thank you Mikey !

  • Apple says it removed parental control apps because they posed privacy risk

Trying being a parent with kids who will use their iPads all day and night. Privacy is not the issue we have - it is managing their time that takes a ton of our time. Screen Time is a joke to control these scenarios - too complicated for parents to figure out and manage.

MDM works for IT departments to control their employees. As a parent, I'm the IT dept paying for these devices and I need similar ability to control the amount of time and what they can do.

Provide the warnings to the parent on privacy and let the markets decide - give us the choice to run apps like OurPact - it has been a lifesaver for our family. Apple would have done better buying OurPact instead of the complicated mess they attempted in iOS12.

  • 3rd-gen Apple TV departs Apple retail, remains at big-box stores

I wanna see a true gaming machine. A8 was a joke. Hopefully they reveal a new Apple TV with A10x or something higher.

Remember this isn't something that needs to be thin as we're not carrying it with us. Look at the monstrosity the new PlayStation is and I bet more gamers will buy it anyway. Knowing Apples obsessiveness with thin technology, I know they can develop a powerful machine that's half the size of competitors.the 4th gen is too small to pack a powerful punch.

    PS4 Pro:

Weak graphics 4th gen Apple TV

Open the lightning port to 3rd parties for accessory support and do something with the damn Kinect team already!!!
I think Cali is right.... ATV could use the A10x - the A8 was sluggish last year. While the TV buying cycle is longer than phones, I think some people would be ready to buy it  - the ATV 4th gen missed the mark because it was underpowered. When they announced Mario Run yesterday for iPhone, it seems really odd that it was not announced for ATV (yes I know they sell their own hardware). If Apple does an October event, and refreshes Macs, I would hope to see an updated ATV with A10x with Mario Run on that platform. By discontinuing the 3rd generation ATV now, they leave room for 4th generation ATV at a lower price after the October event.

  • Video: See Apple Maps in iOS 10 in action, with recommended stops along route & saved parked car lo

These iOS 10 updates are helpful - much needed improvements. I want to use Maps and will definitely try iOS 10 version, however, I agree they still have catchup to do with waze. Waze features like Police updates, robust re-routing, ability to see how long it will take at a future time to make a trip, larger/upto date database of businesses, better readability of the directions, ability to send ETA to friends as you start the trip which they can track and get updates automatically, are all valuable - easy to use. As much as I want to use Maps, I use Waze when I know I need to get somewhere ontime. It never lets me down.
