Growth of Apple's Siri hampered by privacy & departure of key staff - report
ireland said:
Good because privacy is the number 1 important issue of our times. Or at the very least one of the top five issues going. I wouldn't necessarily want to, but I could get by without a digital assistant. I could even get by, if I had to, without a phone, period. But I couldn't relax and feel myself without privacy. Once you have no privacy, you have no identity IMO. It is also certainly a key reason I choose Apple products over competitors. In terms of voice assistants in technology, early days doesn't even begin to get to the heart of where we are at this point. And tbh, even though Path Inc's social network didn't take off, long term I see the potential for a competitor to Facebook coming along and succeeding with privacy being its key differentiator. It may not happen next year, but it wouldn't surprise me if it happens at some point. If Duck Duck had a search engine anywhere near as good as Google's I'd so never use Google again.Apple's privacy policy is making hard to evolve and personalize Siri, the ex-Apple sources told the Wall Street Journal.
Agree completely. I actively avoid anything Google. Not necessarily because of "privacy" per se.
It's because Google makes 97+% of their revenue by selling advertisements.
And the more info they can dig out of you, the more focused their ads can be.
And guess what.
I absolutely f*****g hate ads. -
Amazon willing to allow Apple's Siri on Echo speakers, executive says
AppleInsider said:Amazon is open to supporting third-party voice assistants like Apple's Siri or Google Assistant on its Echo speakers, the company's senior VP of devices said on Wednesday.
Echo audio quality is too crappy.
Amazon's data-mining users is too creepy. -

Apple partner Wistron says 'iPhone 7s Plus' will include wireless charging, improved water...
I'm hoping my 2017 iPhone will have these features:
1. More shatter-resistant screen (I cracked mine and had it replaced thru AppleCare+)
2. Stainless steel antenna band with Space Black diamond-like-carbon coating
3. Ceramic back for shatter resistance
4. Wireless charging
In other words, I'd like my next iPhone to be built like a larger version of my Apple Watch Series 2.
It already has tougher screen glass, a totally scratch-proof DLC coating, a ceramic back, and wireless charging. -
Apple disallows developers from collecting and sharing Contacts data
AppleInsider said:Under the new rules, developers are not only barred from creating, sharing, or selling databases based on harvested contact info, but must use contact data explicitly for what they say they will unless they get further permission. -

Dual-lens camera to remain iPhone Plus exclusive in 2017
AppleInsider said:Apple is predicted to keep the dual-camera setup debuted this week with iPhone 7 Plus an exclusive to 5.5-inch versions of its smartphone lineup in 2017 ...
Eventually there will be a single optical zoom lens that can do it all yet still fit in an iPhone.
And, along with that, I'm hoping that the "camera bump" will disappear.

Apple announces thinner MacBook Pro with Touch Bar, Touch ID, USB-C ports starting at $179...
AppleInsider said:On the right side of the Touch Bar is a sapphire-covered power button with second-generation Touch ID fingerprint sensor, allowing users to login with just their fingerprint.
If you hadn't watched the video or received any instruction, it would be easy to miss it.
Then again, it's right where the power button has been on all recent generations of MBP.
Just without a logo of any kind on its keycap, and without the signature iPhone/iPad "home button ring."
