  • Supply chain remains skeptical Apple can embed Touch ID fingerprint sensor into 'iPhone 8'...

Touch ID is on the 2016 and 2017 MacBook Pro And it Doesn’t Have a Button. You just lay your Finger on OLED Touch Bar screen. Why Wouldnt They do That on The Phone?

it seems to me they already figured it out last year and stuck it right in your face and no one even sees it. lol

  • Apple nixes video glitch repair program for 2011 MacBook Pros

I put my computer in for repair but for the mouse. When I picked it up I was expecting  to pay the $276 tube up fee. Instead I was shocked to find out it was free. "free??"

it turns out the mouse was caused from a swelling battery. As part of tube up they replaced both. But much to my surprise they replaced my brand new maxes out RAM stating mine didn't optimize the machine. They also replac d the entire logic board and the LCD screen. Why??

it turn out my model serial number fell inside the range for recall and as it is apple's policy anything happening or replaced during the recall replacement then EVERYTHING is free and included.

I actualky thought this was over kill and demanded they let me pay for all repairs they refused. "At least take my $276". Nope they wouldn't

so I'm guessing this announcement now only covers the recall repair and not everything else.

By the way this was on my 17" 2011 laptop so thanks!!!

  • Parallels Desktop 13 ships with support for macOS High Sierra, Touch Bar

I also had been running previous versions of Parallels on High Sirerra, but in 13 it is nice to have the Touch Bar support.  The more I use Touch Bar the more I like it but there is a learning curve to it.  The learning curve is remembering it's there.  HA!

  • Apple is de-bloating iTunes with latest 12.7 release, removes App Store

Regarding unable to perform a proper hard backup to the computer THEN update all my devices once: I couldn't agree more with what others are saying on here.  Our WIFI here is so slow that I too rely on my hard backup to the computer, mainly because our internet is so slow there's no way I could do a restore backup of over 2,000+ apps to my device.  I tried it one time a year ago after a problem with 10.1 installation problems.  I was forced to use an iCloud back up to recover my setup.

After 3 days of continuous running, I could see it updating each of the 1,000+ apps one at a time, it definitely didn't stall, but I needed my phone for work.  After 3 days I cancelled the install, gave up and just built it new from scratch using my iTunes backup on my MAC.Yes it took 9 hours but at least I got it back.  It was horrendous to do it from scratch with hundreds of custom folders placing each APP one at a time, but now that's it done - that is the ONLY option for us.

Now today with iTunes 12.7 they completely get rid of the IOS APP store, the drop down menu to get access to your purchased product and the ONLY way to retrieve apps is through WIFI and the iCloud?

Who on Earth thought THIS was a cool idea??  Why didn't they do a poll online asking people "If we get rid of your computer backup and the ability to shop for and research apps using your computer, how many of you would think that's a cool idea?"  Based on all these forums and the blogs all over the internet Id say close to no one would like loosing their hard backup!

In fact the common thread I have been seeing is for the first time in my 30 year Apple history I see people actually wanting to leave Apple over this and you know what?  If I had not invested over $10,000 in Apps, TV Shows, Movies, Books etc... i'd be right behind them.  They have taken a seamlessly easy user friendly system and trashed it in one fell swoop.  We own 13 devices!  Up till today (iTunes 12.7) all I had to do was open iTunes, click UPDATE APPS, wait - it only does 200 at a time, but eventually all 2,900+ get updated - then all I had to do was connect each device to iTunes and update that device with the APPs that updated.  Done.  When we bought a new device each year, we just connected the new device and copied the backup in about an hour per device using the backup stored on the computer.  Hey 1 hour is waaaay better than 3 days let me tell you!  Especially times 13 devices.  LOL

On more than one occasion we have had problems trying to use iCloud, that's why we stopped completely.  It just wasn't worth the days and days of wait time on a slow WIFI connection.

The only way Apple is going to "hear" is if ALL OF YOU who also don't like this tells them loud and clear.  Take 3 minutes and go to the FEEDBACK page and tell them what you think.  If you don't?  They will assume everything fine - no one even complained.  It takes each voice so please click the link and let them know what you think:

  • Oppenheimer: Apple 'lacks the courage to lead the next generation of innovation'

    gatorguy said:
The Apple that developed the iPhone was a different Apple from today's. The old Apple was leaner, a whole lot less wealthy, driven and more desperate for a home-run product. Today's Apple doesn't have the same motivation or urgency IMHO. $200B sitting idle in the bank makes a difference in the way a company conducts itself. This Apple can easily afford to be much more patient, with "betting the farm" no longer a driver to push hard and fast on a new product. Just my .02
OK.  You said it better than me and without all the anger mine had.  You win.  <grin>  Nice post, thanks.

Same old same old, doom and gloom. How many times has Apple been copied after they introduced something? They may not have to be first, but try to be the best. They have more money than they can spend last I checked. Plus they are very strategic when spending it. Evolution happens in small increments over time. Waiting on new chips from Intel has probably been their big hold-up. The Mac Pro & iMac are probably on the next updates. Hopefully.
No.  This is different.  We saw 3 major product announcements which they called "launches", but not a single product?  Angela herself said, "It's undignified to wait in line.  We want everyone to order online".  You know what that kills?
    WORD OF MOUTH.
    FREE TV COVERAGE.
SHOWING THE OUTSIDE WORLD WHO's LOYAL.
All of that gone.  When there's no line because there's no product that's a MAJOR problem.  I went to stand in line at 8:30am on Thursday morning worried about low quantity  - drove home early from my Vegas vacation which was to last till Sunday.  At 9:10am the manager came out and said "No iPhone PLUS at all - not a single one.  Me and the rest of the line left. When there's no product in the store to buy how is that a launch?

Hasn't anyone figured out school (elementary, high school, college) all schools start in August/September.  They've been doing that for over 100 years.  But Apple releases a new laptop 2 months into the semester AND its a 4-6 week wait too?  Kids need laptops - it's a no brainer.  If Apple doesn't have one the parents have to buy them something.  This isn't rocket science folks.  And you don't want to send you kids off to high school or college without a means to reach them.  So you set the releaase day of the phone September 21st AND a 4-6 week wait too?? - end of October maybe November?

Samsung has phones expoding a slam dunk to grab some new customers and they did nothing to increase manufacturing.

Here's the best... we've waited months for the Jet Black phone - hell any PLUS phone for that matter.  And AI has an article that Apple is pulling back production of iPhone 7 due to "no demand"?  What did you think would happen when you hold a release party with nothing to buy??

This isn't s "doom and gloom" article - not this time anyway.  There are plenty of us 30+ year users of Apple who are getting VERY VERY nervous.  When all we get are political tweets and politically correct nonsense instead of products?  YOU should be nervous to, otherwise YOU will be caught off guard when YOU need to go replace something like the rest of us.  I'm not attacking you, I just think you should do a little more "read bertween the lines" on this particular story because when a company publically comes out and states "we're going to start refreshing every 3 years..." that's not innovation to me.  That's using the good name of Apple and sitting back on your laurels while others around you DO innovate.

  • Apple issues sixth betas of iOS 10, watchOS 3 macOS Sierra & tvOS 10, new public iOS 10 beta

Anyone who updated to Aug 3rd iTunes 12.5 (.63) STOP THERE!

There was a new update on Aug 13th  iTunes 12.5 (.68) that killed off the episodes numbers in your tv show listings.

You can see them if you hold down Command + J and change from GRID -> LIST but what a major pain in the butt!  stay on the Aug 3 version (.63)

    ATTENTION DJs:
we bitched and screamed since iTunes 12 first came out but we finally got  engineering 3 to add back in something that Jony Ive took out.

For DJs (like us) that need to see BPM, Comments (which we use for the KEY of the song) and the BIT RATE... in each playlist you can now get that info that used the be in iTunes 10 by
    1. choosing your playlist
    2. Click LIBRARY
    3. Choose SONGS
    4  then click Command + J
    5. Choose show art work
    6. Voila

Fixed!  The only problem is Brian was only able to get it to turn on. You still need to do that for each playlist. We have 437 playlists - one for each CD or vinyl release Razormaid released but hey... I'm just glad they got it for us. Now we just him to get us cover flow back and we'll be back in business.

P.S. Those of you who remix using Wave Editor like we do, it broke in macOS 12 beta 1 and with the original company unable to fix it (they end of life'd it back in 2011) Apple's engineering 3 fixed it for me in beta 2. It's been running great and now in beta 6 still going strong. Thanks Brian!
  • Kuo: Demand for new MacBook Pro models tepid due to high prices, disappointing specs

They really screwed up. If they'd had these ready for September (school) they probably do better. But all the students already committed to something. You can't go to college and hope a computer may or may NOT show up. Hell with the 3-4 the whole 1st semester will be 90% over. And my god the price! I'm not a PC supporter AT ALL but Microsoft made a whole computer touch screen not a "bar". Yes I know.... "they make one without it, blah blah blah...", but it was the only thing it had going for it this time around. My 2011 17" has the same RAM as this. And they sucker punch you $2,400 for the 15" that's how much I paid for my 17"back in 2011. Shouldn't prices go down by now not up and then REALLY up? Just sayin'

  • Tim Cook's fundraiser for presidential candidate Hillary Clinton set for tonight

So the Trump America brings back all the manufacturing from China. So far all well and good.
Howerver the costs of making stuff in the USA is far higher than in China. So the Factory gate price of every widget will rise.
Salaries won't rise in anywhere near the rise in Factory Gate prices

How, in Trump's Idil, will the average worker be able to afford anything. Price inflation would be IMHO pushing 10%.
The Unions would go out on strike.
Factories would close because they can't sell anything. PEople would lose their jobs.

    What price elexting Trump then?

I don't have a vote come November because I'm not in th USA but watching a documentary on TV last night about him it got really scary.
He is appealing to White Lower and Lower middle class voters. He does seem to be alienating pretty well everyone else. That is even scarier.

Ok I was going to stay out of this completely but this one really bothered me. Trump is not appealing to a single group - no one can and get numbers like his. He's appealing to the "enough is enough" group which is comprised of all Humans seeing their life, country and future going the wrong way.

Hes made it it crystal clear he wants to take down Washington and put it back the way the constitution stated in the first place.

Before all this government Washington mess the power was at a state level. That's how the constitution was written. Each state can make its laws but Washington would make sure laws about freedom of speech, provide self protection for yourself and family. That's what the constitution clearly states.

Then somewhere along the way we lost our way. He's trying to fix that.

I say in the age of computers ALL senators and representatives should be forced to stay home in their state. There's no reason they can't vote by computer. They need to stay local where real people can access them not all these companies and their special interests. Make them hold town hall meetings and HEAR what we want not what some lobbyist paid them to say we want.

whatever tv show you watched is obviously extremely bias and as an Apple user I would hope you would have seen that. But you didn't. I have two college degrees so that blows your "poor uneducated white people only" theory out of the water. The only uneducated person I see here is the one who made the documentary to get you to actually believe what they told you was the truth.

A 5 minute google search could have given you more actual info despite googles attempts to not show search results for non democrats WHICH THEY HAVE ADMITTED TO before you rebuff that statement. They promised to "try harder to reflect both sides". Didn't help you now did it?

im not attacking you AT ALL. Please do not think that for one minute. I'm concerned that the media doesn't want everyone to know everything. It's not you. It's the message not the messenger. Ok?
  • Apple refuses to back GOP convention because of Trump politics

    jungmark said:
I don't think Apple should pick sides no matter how disastrous a Trump presidency would be.
agree. If you give to one you give to both because the people purchasing you're product is from both parties too. Either give to both or give to none

many an actor and recording artist have watched their sales literally drop in half over night when they decide to voice their opinion which none of us asked for.

And for those of you who say "say have the right to voice their feelings like anyone else..."   Blah blah. Well "everyone else" is not asking for you to buy the music or see their movies now are they?

just sayin'. When madonna Started being political she was boo'd off stage. When Skec Baldwin (and friends) came screaming out on their views, they stopped getting good parts, unless George Clooney made the movie <lol>

im his saying come September maybe I'll try Simone else's product rather than hand over money. If it's good enough for Apple to do "pick and choose"... there's a lot of new players coming to the market.
