  • Apple pushes FCC to keep 'super-high' spectrum free for 5G & other future tech

I had really crappy service at my home using AT&T, 1-2 bars max, couldn't even talk while inside my house, had to go outside. I decided to switch to Verizon since they assured me that their network coverage was vastly superior. Turns out it is the same crappy connection. Mind you I'm in the center of LA county, one of the largest cities in the world. I wish these providers would invest more on putting up towers. 5G will mean nothing to me if I can't get a signal.
I totally agree with what you’ve said volcan. Here’s a good one for you... 4 blocks from Apples infinite loop buildings AT&T gives you 1 bar outside and no bars inside. The “heart” of the Silicon Valley and no signal. Between the phone companies lack of towers and the cities not wanting to add towers and the nimby’s “we don’t want them here”, I’m not sure that there will ever be a time when we all get good coverage.

  • Apple removes Siri team lead as part of AI strategy shift

I guess I’m in the minority as Siri and Apple Maps works fine for me. I use both on a daily basis and for the most part they just work. Yes, Siri will sometimes miss a word I’ve spoken for a text message and there is great room for improvement, but overall I find them both to be useful tools. I use Siri for text messages, both reading and creating and she’s spot on as long as there is a good cell connection. When she becomes unresponsive, I usually find my cell signal is also gone. So adding the capability built into the iPhone would be greatly appreciated. Love the new look on Maps and in the last 2 years have never had a problem with bad directions.

A long way from the ideal world of a HAL 9000 or Jarvis, but in my opinion, still useful tools. Cheers

  • Rumor: iPad Pro with triple-lens camera, iPad with dual-lens shooter to launch in October

If this dual/triple format helps with AR/VR it might make sense, but I don’t think people consider tablets as a go to device for taking photos, so not a big selling point in my book.

  • Exploring what you can, and can't do with HomeKit for TVs

Thanks guys for the rundown! Really appreciate it.

I agree w/ your assessment the three biggest annoyances w/ my current TV/AppleTV setup is the multiple remotes needed and having to use the TV remote only to switch the TV on and off.

The need to have a sound bar (w/ another remote) b/c the speakers on the TV are so 'tinny' sounding. I don't mind having a sound bar, in of itself. I realize the sound quality of very thin speakers inside a very thin TV is problematic. I just wish the speaker would come on automatically.

I guess I would just like everything to work from my AppleTV remote! :)

    Best.

P.S. I was hoping I could wait for Apple to solve all this with the next release of the AppleTV. But it looks as though their solution is AirPlay two, an AppleTV and two HomePods. Hmmmm. A bit on the expensive side. :)
Pick up an Inteset 4-1 remote. They run about $30 bucks and are pretty good at replacing all remotes. I’ve got 4 of them all set up to handle TV, Cable box, AppleTVs, and Sound bars. While no microphone for Siri, everything else works once you’ve programmed the remote. Nice thing is AppleTV is already programmed and adding the others is pretty simple using Inteset instructions. Cheers.

  • Apple's wireless Tile-like tracking technology exposed in iOS 13 build

Apple limited “Find iPhone’s” real-time tracking functionality some time ago. The “refresh” icon when a device has been located seems to do nothing now. Several minutes can pass before position is updated (if at all). The only way I’ve been able to prompt a current-location fetch is by force quitting “Find iPhone” and restarting it. Anyone else notice this?
If you swipe down on the left hand side of the screen where the list of devices is, it will update the locations for all devices. The little circular arrow (refresh icon) doesn’t seem to work consistently anymore however. Cheers.
